how much do you pay?
Columbia's pools are $326 for access to all the pools year round. I think its a good deal, but just curious what others pay.
When I was a kid, we belonged to a private pool and I don't remember the exact number, but it seemed like it was 500 for our family for the summer. I'm surprised that its not more expensive.

We don't have a pool membership because I can't find any pools in our area that are affordable/don't have a 5 year waiting list.
I grew up in Columbia and we always had a membership for the outdoor pools in the summer. I LOVED that and I'm actually considering joining even though we don't live in Columbia (we can get membership because we do work in Columbia). But $326 for the year sounds pretty decent to me.

I don't have an answer for you but I wanted to chime in regarding CA pools. Like SK, I grew up in Columbia, going to the pools all summer and loving it. My sister just recently got a pool only membership for her family (DH and DD). Because they live in Ellicott City, it's over $600!!!! I find that totally insane. DH and I were going to do the same thing but $577....I don't think so. I'll just use my parent's guest passes until they run out. For non-CA residents (or people who work on CA property) the cost is ridiculous!

Even the private pools in places like Catonsville are expensive.
You pay a yearly membership fee (anywhere from $375 - $575 per family), PLUS a one-time bond fee ($250 - $750, which is refunded when you resign membership).

I've looked into two pools in my area. One has a 2+year waiting list and is $$ to join the other one requires you get a recommendation from a current member and I do not know anyone at that pool.
I really wish our local Y's had outdoor pools.
Wow, I had no idea that pools were so expensive.
I'm also really glad that I know someone with an pool, so I just go over there at anytime.
Here is the info I found on the 2 pools closest to me.
Fallston Swim Club has a 3 year wait list. And it's $150 in fees, $550 "stock holder fee" which is refunded when you leave the pool, and $500 a year dues.
Rock Spring Swim Club: $35 application fee, $495 membership fee and $435 non-refundable initation fee your first year.

FYI - Columbia is 615 for a non-CA resident for a year round all pools membership. And there aer like 20+ outdoor pools, 2 indoor pools.
It really grinds my gears that it's so expensive. I live in HoCo, but not in columbia and that is just WAY too much to pay. Less than $400 is reasonable, it's $100/mo for the summer, but 600 just seems like so much money- that's half a week in OC or something!
My assessment for living on CA is like 2000/year.
