Where to stay: Sedona & Grand Canyon
I'm looking for suggestions on where to stay in Sedona and also near the Grand Canyon. We'll be heading out in early September. Thanks for any advice.
Re: Where to stay: Sedona & Grand Canyon
We stayed at the Southwest Inn at Sedona (www.swinn.com). It's a really nice boutique style hotel, in town, with amazing views of the red rocks. Their rates are very reasonable and include a great little breakfast buffet.
On our way to the Grand Canyon from Vegas, we stayed in a town called Williams. I think it's about 45 min from the canyon but they had tons of affordable hotels.
Sedona- we stayed at Amara, it was awesome
GC- we stayed inside the park at El Tovar, right on the south rim. You have to book pretty far in advance or get really lucky there's a cancellation (we were lucky).
There are a couple of other places to stay inside, not as nice as El Tovar though (I think one doesn't have A/C). September was warm during the day and cool at night when we were there
The town right outside the entrance to the GC is Tusayan- lots of places there.
We also stayed at the Amara (Sedona) and Bright Angel Lodge (GC).
Amara was awesome. Nice place and perfectly located.
Bright Angel Lodge was nice too but very different. It's very bare bones and utilitarian, but it was clean and I loved staying inside the park. Totally worth it. Book as early as possible, though.
I think it depends on your approach to the Grand Canyon. If you want to see it, than you can do it in a day trip. But if you want to better experience it by hiking and whatnot, I highly recommend an overnight there. The GC is amazing.
