Crawling out of the woodwork today! lol
DH and I are meeting with our realtor tomorrow to look at some properties we are interested in. This is our first home - we have been living with my parents, but with two "big" kids, we are ready to get OUT!!
We are scheduled to look at four listings tomorrow, and the one that appeals to us the most, based on size and location was built in 1976, and is described as "dated."
Just for fun: What is the worst thing you can imagine with this house? I picture orange countertops and a pink bathtub, sink, toilet, etc... Oh, and green appliances. What do you imagine?

Re: Another Lurker Here...
DH says TEAL shag carpeting! Ugh.
My idea of a worst case scenario there could be the thing of renovation nightmares... my parents bought a house from 1973 in 1995, it had full house textured wallpaper, entire finished basement covered in dark wood paneling below said wallpaper, wall to wall shag throughout - each room with different colors (black and red, black and blue, green and white, etc etc). The winner of the most dated contest was the downstairs 'family room' (if you could really call it that). It had the blue & black shag, dark paneling, wallpaper, soft wood ceiling with mood lights, one full wall covered with a bar with a giant monstrosity of a dedicated liquor shelf, an olllld hot tub, a huge brick fireplace, and an attempt at picture windows - but being the basement they were rather high up. It was the WTF room, for sure. In that house there was lots of remodeling over the years, but the olive green and yellow porcelain fixtures in the bathrooms there were still there when we moved.
So for worst case, I'd have to one up that reality - which would be horrid, I think.
Browser fart... sorry
Burnt orange, pea green, and smoke stains on the ceiling. Hopefully not...good luck =]
So, of the things we talked about here, it wasn't that bad... beige bathroom plumbing, and DARK wood cabinets, but that's about it.
Unfortunately, it requires more repair than we are able to afford. The roof has wood shingles, there are no appliances in the kitchen, furnace, hot water heater, and a/c unit all need to be replaced, the deck is scary at best (we wouldn't even walk on it), and so much more. Which was all too bad, because I loved the layout. It will be a great investment property for someone someday. I just wish it were us.
