Dear Hubby and I are renting while saving to build our home. Our apartment neighbors are normally not a problem. However, the matriarch who works 3rd shift has placed a mesh "curtain" that has magnets in the center to keep it shut and has nailed the edges to the door frame at the too of our shared stairwell. I would like to write her a letter asking her to remove it as my husband and I are having quite a bit of aggrivation getting up and down the stairs with the new "screen", especially when carrying groceries. How should I word it? We do plan to live here for at least another year and I don't want this family as an enemy. Any ideas are appreciated. I don't want to have to involve our landlord if I can politely request it from the neighbor on my own.
Re: confronting neighbors
I'd tell the landlord. But if you want to do it, I wouldn't ask her to do it, all she has to do is ignore you. Getting someone to do something is very hard. Especially something they don't want to do. Then you have to ask the landlord and it becomes a big "thing".
If you must, say something like "The new curtain, in the shared stairwell is difficult to manage. So, I will be taking it down on such&such date and returing it to you. Please give me a call if you'd like to discuss this. This is my phone number. Thanks."
