So my cousin ( by marriage) is in a band that is pretty popular here and they are moving up in the world. They just won the 2012 Indie Music Fest in Las Vegas. Anyways, in one of the pictures for their group cousin wears a Marine Corps Dress Blues jacket. The rank and everything was removed, buttons are still in place though. Anyways it really really bothers me and E. Like a lot. He didn't earn the right to wear that jacket and I don't think it should be used as a costume. I don't know if this was a one time thing or if he wears it to their shows too. Do you think I should email him and my aunt and tell them he shouldn't be wearing it or keep my mouth shut?
I might DD later.
ETA: because I left words out.
Re: Thoughts?- Stan especially
Okay now I just have to get the guts up to do it.
And to top it off he is sitting at the same table as E at my other cousin's wedding next weekend, so I have to say something before E does.
What is the difference with this and hunters going to Army Surplus stores to buy BDU's to wear for hunting?
Why? He was the one in the Military. Might seem more appropriate.
See I was trying to convince myself of this too. But I think because there are several types of "camo" and not just BDU's its different. Ugh.
I don't particularly like that either. I'm uptight sometimes, LOL.
Honestly in my opinion yes. They have the EGA on them. If the jacket was just a blue jacket with the red that looked like the dress blues jacket but had no EGA buttons it wouldn't bother me as much.
E lacks tact and would probably say something not very nice.
I tend to agree...
I don't like the idea of it at ALL. I think it's super rude... If you don't have the guts to join up yourself, you shouldn't have the privilege of wearing the stuff...
But it's not illegal to buy and sell the uniforms as long as the person isn't impersonating an AD person. So... I wouldn't say anything if I were you.. He's not in the wrong, technically.. So you might come off as just uptight and snobby if you say anything.
I agree. Unfortunately, he's not breaking any rules.
Sometimes we need society to tell us when when we're breaking rules of good taste even if we're not breaking law type rules.
Agreed. Is it disrespectful? Absolutely, but I wouldn't confront someone over it. If I were to confront him, I'd let E do it, since he was the service member.
I had to Google because I'm nosy... is it these kids?

They're like 12. I'm not sure making a big to-do about it is worth it. Maybe a not-too-aggressive comment like "Did someone style you guys for that shoot? Wearing part of a uniform like that isn't really appropriate, I'm surprised they put you in that".
Why not ask him WHY he chose to wear the jacket. If it is a fashion statement than yes, it needs to go. If it was his way to pay homage to the USMC - I'd suggest removing the buttons and replacing with a plain option. Explain there are strict rules regarding the authority to wear. Using the Jacket in promotional material is unauthorized.
It isn't the same as wearing BDUs for 2 reasons
1. BDU is a battle dress uniform and used for work. Woodland Camo is worn by many civilian and military agencies - however is no longer approved for wear by any service. It is obsolete and now available for public wear.
2. The Dress Blue uniform is recognized by Service and implies the wearer is in the Service or a Veteran. The Dress Blues are used to pay the highest honor a service member can give while in uniform."Sunday Best" vs "Black Tie"
