Recommend places to eat in Italy

Hello-

I am trying to compile a list of places to eat in Italy to go when we visit later this month. We will be in Venice, Monterosso, Florence, Greve in Chianti, and then Rome. I would love recommendations for any of the above. If you happen to know I would love any details about it such as price range, lunch/dinner, what they specialize in, and the location/neighborhood would be very helpful. I appreciate any advice! One of the restaurants I enjoyed most during our trip to Italy was at Ristorante Via Venti in Monterosso (blog entry here). I had the most amazing pesto pasta here!

In Rome I loved our meal at Cybo Osteria, which is located near Piazza Navona (blog entry here). Great inexpensive pasta dishes here.

We had a tough time finding good places to eat in Venice, but I did enjoy several of the cicchetti bars (blog entry here).

In Florence the only place we ate at that I would recommend is I Tarocchi (blog entry here). I had a wonderful risotto at this restaurant.

I also forgot to mention Grom; this is a delicious gelato chain in Italy and I visited locations in Rome and Venice.

I can't remember the names of any of the places I ate in Italy, but in Venice I found the best meals were when we wandered off the beaten path to back alleys, etc and found places that had specials/menus written on a chalkboard...they also tended to speak no English (I don't speak Italian, but I know French and there are similarities and by then I had been to enough restaurants in Italy I knew the main words).

Harry's Bar in Venice is amazing. It is pretty expensive, we did lunch for two (salads, pasta, dessert, and drinks) for about $150. It is an institution though just west of San Marco Square

I know this is a few days late but I just got home from Venice today! We had two incredible dinners in Venice - Alla Botte and EnoiTeca Mascareta. Alla Botte was a recommendation from our innkeeper - I asked her where her and her husband go to dinner and she sent us there. It was more or less walking distance from St. Marks Square but it's on a really tiny side street with no name, so I would recommend asking your hotel to draw you a map! Great Italian meats and homemade pasta. EnoiTeca Mascareta is another really small place we stumbled upon just walking around away from the main squares - it doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's run by a father and son and it's clear they really take pride in the restaurant. The beef carpaccio and seabass tortellini = one of the best meals I've ever had, with great inexpensive Italian wine.

not only in italy. there are 3 in manhattan as well. not sure about other cities. i love grom!

It is an institution, but there is no way I would eat a meal there. You can get MUCH better food for cheaper nearby, even around San Marco. Go to Harry's for a couple of their famous (15 euro each) belinis...then eat somewhere else! We had a great meal at Trattoria da Ignazio in San Polo.
