Do you give a gift for a Roman Catholic priesthood ordination?
A friend of mine will be ordained a priest in a couple of weeks and I just got an invitation for the hubby and me.
Does anyone know if it is appropriate/expected/etc to give a gift at this type of an event? I know that in some religions it is and in some it isn't, but also he will be taking a vow to live a simple life.
And if a gift is necessary or a good idea, what would you get him?
Thanks for the help!

Re: Do you give a gift for a Roman Catholic priesthood ordination?
My uncle is a priest. Whenever we are in situations where we give a gift, it is customary to make a donation in his name to a charity, usually a Catholic charity.
Others also tend to give gifts of food, e.g. a fruit basket.
Our priest loves his Ipod... does he already have one of those?
Otherwise, I'd go with a giftcard.
Im sure he does. I decided on having a cross engraved with his name and "ordained in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit". Think he'll like it. Thanks for all the ideas!
