Hello Nesties!
This is my first post. I am happy to be a member and looking for to what this community has to offer.
I am writing because I have the blues...I currently work in the legal field outside of my home and I DO NOT LIKE IT. I like the legal field, but I hate working for other people. Two years ago, I started a legal freelancing business where I did legal writing for attorneys. I loved it. (I still do it on the side but not full time)Two months before we got engaged (as it turned out) I accepted a position with a nonprofit where I am essentially doing what I was doing as a freelancer. The money is not the greatest but it is consistent and I have health benefits. I have been here a little over a year and having consistent pay was great because I was able to contribute to our wedding, honeymoon and reception (we have been married almost 8 months). Now that all that is over, I feel like this served its purpose (due to the timing) and I want to go back to freelancing.
I have talked this over with my husband and he supports whatever I choose to do; the problem though is I keep thinking that it's not just me anymore. When I started freelancing 2 years ago, we weren't married so if money was slow it just affected me. Now it will affect both of us. And we both need to work in order to meet our financial obligations. We do not have children yet, thank God but I just worry that we will struggle financially if I just freelance without a steady paycheck to fill in the gaps.
I do love the idea of freelancing because I can be at home more and just be available to do more and enjoy being a newlywed. Working at my current job keeps me extremely busy and working a lot!
...what do you guys think?
Re: Job Blues...
Do you like your non-profit position? I'm a money-saver, and I personally would be inclined to deposit my paycheck from my current position into a savings account and rack up as much cash as possible. This is especially astounding when I calculate my healthcare costs with my job vs on my own or on DH's. Then, if possible, when I had kids, freelance.
BUT, if you don't like your current position and are in a financially-stable position to go freelance, I wouldn't blame you for going freelance.
ETA. So, I just re-read, and you say you don't like it...I totally understand how hard it is to go somewhere every day you do not enjoy. My previous answer of leaving if you can swing it financially still stands.
