Southwest Airlines

My husband and I are going on a cruise at the end of August and are wanting to get our plane tickets soon.

They have the options "Anytime" and "Wanna Get Away" to choose from.  Anytime is about $150 more expensive, the only differences being that it is fully refundable and you can make same day changes. Since we are flying in the day of the cruise and bought a transfer to take us to the ship, we won't need to make changes.

To me, the second and cheaper sounds like a good option but I dont have any experience buying airfare. Any advice would be appreciated!!

Re: Southwest Airlines

  • I always travel southwest, just get the cheaper wanna get away tickets.

Also in case you didn't know, southwest does not have reserved seats, so 24 hours before your flight you are going to want to do the online check-in which will allow you get a better spot in line for picking seats! This important so that you do not get stuck in a terrible center seat between two very large people.

The bright side is bags fly FREEE!

  • I'm glad you suggested the cheapter option haha.

And thank you for the tip!

  • If you are on board the day before your return flight home, you may want to spend $10 for early bird check-in or have someone at home check you in at the 24 hour prior mark and then just print your Boarding passes at the airport. I do that for my husband when he travels and isn't at the computer for the check in time.
  • I always book the wanna get away flights when I am flying personal but the anytime flights when I am flying for business (because it is cheaper to change).
  • I agree, we always book the wanna gate away fares too.  Southwest is still pretty flexible compared to other airlines!
