Hello, looking for some sewing help!! :)
Hi! I'm new to the nest and would love to learn how to sew. I live in between Baltimore and DC... does anyone know of any good local shops that can teach me to use my sewing machine? I have an old basic one from about 3 years ago (sorry don't know the model) and once I get the hang of it, I'll probably donate the one I have and get one that I really like.
If no one is from the area, does anyone know of a any good you tube videos or online sites to help me learn?
Thanks ladies!

Hello!
What type of sewing are you looking to do? Quilting? Clothing?
I taught myself to quilt and sew using youtube videos and quilting blogs. Look up The Crafty Gemini on youtube. I enjoy her videos. Prudent Baby , crazymomquilts, sewmamasew are among some of the great sewing/quilting bloggers.

I'm looking to do sewing for clothes and just general stuff.. nothing too fancy.
I'll look into the recommendations you all gave! Thanks so much!
Hello! It may be a little bit far, but I'm semi-local to you (NoVA) and G Street Fabric (they have one in Falls Church, Centerville and another in Rockville) offers some pretty awesome classes. The girls on the local rave about them- I am self taught- but I frequently shop there and the staff is very helpful.
My Sun Sew Vac shop (machine sales and repair) also does classes, but I don't know anyone who has taken one.
Stand up for something you believe in.
Hi there,
I am not from your area, so I am not too sure of any local shops. But the big chains always offer classes and most places where you can buy fabric hold classes. I took classes while I was in high school, so most of my current techniques are learned from there or self taught. Youtube is an amazing place, I taught myself to crochet from videos that were posted. There are many well done videos that are posted and can teach you everything you know.
You might not know the model, but if you at least know the brand you can probably go to the brands website and download a copy of a manual for a similar model and learn the basic for the sewing machine from there. I know this isn't too much help, but felt the need to throw my two cents in!
All of these suggestions are great! I would start off with something simple, definately not an item of clothing. Learning to sew can be tricky, you kind of have to think backwards or inside out, lol. DOn't forget to wash and dry all of your fabric before sewing together, just incase something is gonna shrink it's better to do it before it's made into something, then it could be ruined...
I taught myself how to sew 10 years ago and now I have a Patent Pending on an item that I thought up and designed myself! Anything is possible, the sky is the limit!
Have fun with it!
