(CP) Does it matter where you get your degree

I'm considering going back for an MBA. It would be my second master's and I'm really interested in doing an all-online program. All the schools I'm looking at have the AACSB accreditation, beyond that, does it matter significantly to future employers where you get your degree. (Obviously it makes a difference if you're ivy league, but I'm not applying to any of those!)

eta: Example: MBA from UNC vs MBA from Greensboro State. Online only universities (a la U of Phoenix) not included.

I feel like it would matter most if you are in an area where a school has high name recognition. This works for both expensive and less expensive schools. For example, if you live in Greensboro and the area knows that State is a good school you are likely to find employers in that area look forward to hiring graduates from the hometown university. If you were to look for a job across the country then Greensboro U might not stand out as much as a bigger name school because of name recognition, not necessarily because the programs are any different.

In some specialties, no.

In others, yes. My understanding is that an MBA from most schools is just a credential, unless you went to a top tier.

That?s a good question! As someone who went to a Boston business school, I feel your pain. There are a lot of business schools in the area with similar profiles/reputation. Based on the example you provided, I would think the only difference for employers is what your concentration was, not where you went.
