where to stay...Charleston, SC

We are looking for suggestions on where to stay in Charleston --- preferably something with a pool and/or near the beach. We don't need walking distance to town as we'll have a car. TIA

p.s. also taking restaurant recommendations if you have those as well :)

  • Saltwater Dreams has a fabulous post on Charleston on her blog, so many excellent recs, she used to live there:

  • I noticed she doesn't have any hotel recs in her post but I'm pretty sure she got married at the Planter's Inn, which is gorgeous.

  • I just went last week and we stayed at the Hampton Inn Historic District. It was located on Meeting St. It was really nice. The location was great and the hotel itself was so nice and clean. Also there is a beautiful courtyard with a nice pool!

Married the love of my life on 1-21-12. Our princess arrived on 5-28-13.

  • You must eat at Magnolias in the historic district and try the fried green tomatoes on cheese grits. OMG it was delicious (an appetizer). There are a few hotels in that area as well that looked nice. I stayed outside of Charleston.
  • Ditto Magnolia's. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Historic District and it was a short walking distance to everything yet very reasonably priced.
