What are you all doing with your dress?

I am super curious to know what you ladies are doing with your dresses now that the big day has come and gone.  My poor beautiful dress is hanging in my spare bedroom begging to go to the cleaners.  I just haven't found one that I like yet.  Odd, I know....but I'm having trouble trusting someone to clean it without destroying it.  And it desperately needs cleaning!

Are you selling, cleaning, hanging on to it for someone else, or just forgotten about it?

Re: What are you all doing with your dress?

  • I tried to get mine cleaned, but the cleaner had it for a week and a half and gave me three different days that it would be finished without ever touching it- So I just brought it back home and haven't found another place yet :/

As far as what happens after it gets cleaned- I'm torn. I'll never wear it again, so I really don't see the point in hanging on to it. But I'm not ready to let it go yet, either. I imagine I'll keep it for a year or two and then try to sell it :/

  • I don't even care...my mom is already mad that I jumped in the pool with it on so I guess I can't throw it out. Ha! I loved it but like what am I going to do with it?!

  • Keeping it. It's currently hanging in a spare room in its bag. I have a preservation kit from David's when I bought it. I just don't know where it is at the moment. I think when we get back from of HM I will send it in. I can't part with it, even if it stays in a box in a closet forever. I'm sentimental like that and need to keep it. I wanted to keep my bouquet, but I destroyed it and threw it away. So, I have to keep the dress. Plus my mom spent a lot of money on it.
  • Mine is currently at the cleaners getting preserved. I couldn't sell it at this time, I love it too much to let it go!

  • mine is also hanging up in the spare room waiting to be dealt with.  it's really REALLY dirty... we did rock the dress pics the next day on the red rocks in Colorado  hahaha

i heard about these girls that all get together once a year and hang out in their wedding dresses and drink champagne or something like that, i think that would be SO cool, but i don't have any girlfriends in colorado yet.  i'll have to find some haha  :-P

  • I haven't decided yet. I was going to preserve it, but it got dirty and torn on our wedding day. I can't imagine wearing it again. I was thinking about maybe doing a trash the dress session. I don't know. So until I figure it out, it will sit in our spare bedroom.

  • I have no idea yet. It is currently hanging in the front closet and in desperate need of cleaning. I think I will eventually be sending it in for preservation. I don't want to put it away! I love it too much!
  • Mine is hanging in my closet at my mom's house.. not cleaned yet.

We're going to do a trash the dress session sometime this summer.

  • I purchased my dress pre-owned and really wanted to pay it forward and sell it, but I'm 5'2" so I had to have it hemmed big time, and I also cut off the train, so I don't think anyone will want it.

I def want to do a rock the dress session, and I'm going to see if I can get H to do it with me so we can get some of the pics we didn't get on the wedding day.

I was also toying with the idea of having it hemmed tea length so I can wear it at the party we are hosting in Philly for family and friends who couldn't make it to MN for the wedding, but I think it'll be too poofy, heh.

  • I think I am going to give it to my mom to have cut into baby blankets/dresses.

  • I guess I'm in the minority but I sold mine! I'm actually going to meet the girl I sold it to this morning. I love my dress and it was beautiful but I'm never going to wear it again so I figured why not sell it to someone else who could love it just as much?

My SIL had her gown cut into a baptism gown but we have a baptism gown on my side of the family that my mother, my sister and I all wore. My babies will be wearing that one.

I'll be cleaning mine once I find a place to do it and then keeping it forever. I'm too sentimental to let it go.

I figure if I have a daughter one day then she might want to cut a piece from it and sew it into her dress as her something old? At least it will be an option if I keep it :)
