So I went to my 28-week appt yesterday afternoon. Everything measuring on track, except my weight gain. My OB said I'm likely to gain closer to 40 pounds, but she wasn't concerned. She said some women just gain more, despite doing all the right things. I was told to keep doing what I'm doing.
Then I went to a BBQ with co-workers after. I work with a woman who is almost 60, never married, not really a fan of kids (yet she's a teacher!), kinda awkward, and generally a negative nancy. She was asking how I was feeling, and I replied and said I feel good. Then the baby did some kind of weird roll-over move and she noticed my reaction. She asked, "Are you sure it's not twins?" I said, "No, I heard just ONE heartbeat at my appt an hour ago, hahahahah (super awkward laugh)." She replied, "Maybe the second one was hiding."
Why do people feel the need to say these things to pregnant women?! Obviously, I know I don't look like I'm having twins and I know she hasn't really been around too many pregnant women....but come on! I feel like being PG turns the people around you into idiots.
Re: update to my weight gain vent
People suck!
I gained over 40 lbs with my 1st and did serious workouts everyday until I can birth. Labor and delivery sucked.
I gained the same amount with my second and did not workout a day of my pregnancy. It was an easy labor and delivery.
Good Luck!
On behalf of this insensitive woman, I offer my apologies. People don't think before they speak. Several years back, I returned to the office after bereavement leave from my MIL's passing. A co-worker came to my office the morning I came back to offer her condolences and said, "well, if yo need another MIL, you can have mine."
I remember that TO THIS DAY. She was a jerk, always. When I left our mutual place of employment to join a consulting firm that same woman said "Well I hope they dont work you to death. When I worked for a consultant they treated me like a dog." WOW--what a bon voyage! For the record, I have yet to morph into a canine in my current employment position.
I gained 27 lbs total.
Around 25 weeks, someone at work asked me if I was having twins.
Seriously.
That's basically what my doctor said to me...she wasn't worried at all, but said I will definitely go over the 35-pound "limit" and probably be closer to 40. I know I am being healthy...it's just so annoying that others feel the need to comment on a PG woman's size. Since when is that appropriate?!
How much are you up right now? I went through a HUGE growth spurt right around 26-28 weeks and seriously gained like 8lbs in 2-3 weeks. The scale didnt move at all this past week .. so I am hoping that I am oppose of most women, and since I've been steadily gaining all along I won't balloon at the very end and things will taper off.
