ISO long-distance movers / nationwide relocation

Hi everyone, first time post on this board!

DH and I are moving from NYC to FL and need some recommendations for long-distance moving companies (full service).

Would love to hear about any experiences, good or bad!

TIA :)

Re: ISO long-distance movers / nationwide relocation

  • Where in FL are you moving? I know a reputable company who does NY to FL moves all the time. PM me and I'll give you their information.

  • You'll get better answers on the NYC board.  Moving companies like Mayflower, Allied, etc are franchises, so how one does has no relation to how another will do.

We move about every 2 years for work and the only moving company I know of that's not a franchise is Graebel, but I don't know if they're in your part of the country.  Mr. Graebel still owns everything and runs a tight ship.  It was the best move we ever had.

  • I just did a long distance move... Pa to Co. Good Luck! it wasn't too frustrating. I found it was better to use PODS because if you use moving trucks cross country they may move your stuff from one to another truck and I was a little leery about other people packing my stuff. but if you use movers to do everything it is soooo much easier. it depends on how much you trust people with your stuff.

The company we used was Door to Door, and the were cheaper then PODS but they are also smaller. JSYK   :) good luck with the move!!!

  • We did a long distance move and looked at United,  A. Arnold, Mayflower and another I can't remember. We ended up negotiating with each and were able to get the best price with United.

We packed everything ourselves, they just moved everything and disassembled /reassembled furniture etc. Nothing was damaged and we were pretty happy with everything.

The only thing I wasn't happy with was that when they reassembled the furniture, they didn't do so very well and many things were loose (our bed nearly fell apart when we laid in it the first night, and the kitchen table legs were not tighened and it wasn't steady). It was too bad that we didn't notice this until after they had left but it was something we could easily fix.
