I'm going to Chicago with a few girl friends for a quick getaway. I am looking for recommendations on where to stay. We are planning on shopping, going to the pier, etc. TIA
Re: Where to stay in Chicago
I stayed at the InterContinental Chicago in April and was overall really happy with the place. It is right on Michigan Ave and a very short walk to the pier. The rooms were nice and immaculate. The bathrooms were spacious. The bed and pillows were really comfortable. The ONLY negative thing that I can remember thinking was that the towels sucked- small and far from soft.
We were able to book it through Hotwire and paid under $100/nt for a long weekend. I'm sure that it is much higher to book directly though them, but you might be able to narrow down your results on hotwire and see if there are any deals on it.
Check out the Courtyard Marriott on Ontario. It's a block off Michigan Ave. but within walking distance to the Pier and other activities. Also, the Seneca right by the John Hancock building is great! The rooms were spacious (small bathroom though) as this use to be an apartment building.
If you're going to do a lot of touristy things (Hancock, Willis Tower, etc.) I'd recommend getting a Go Chicago card. We were able to ride the buses, get in the front of lines and got a discount on the boat tour using it.
Recently, we've stayed the Westin Michigan Ave. and the Dana Hotel and Spa. The Westin is obviously on Michigan which is the epitome of shopping in Chicago. Walking distance to a ton of stores, restaurants, and bars. Also walking distance to Millennium Park on a nice day.
The Dana is on state and still only a block or two off Michigan. I think we preferred this hotel. It's smaller than the Westin and the decor was right up our alley (very modern and minimalist). I will say the rooms have rainforest shower (awesome) but the only thing separating the shower from the bedroom is a curtain pulled over a glass window. Fine for a couple, but not sure if friends would like that. Having said that, we had a corner room with floor to ceiling windows all the way around and the view was awesome! They also have a neat bar on the very top floor that would be fun for you and your girlfriends. Walking distance to shopping, bars, and restaurants as well.
