Honeymoon Tips?

Hubby and I leave in about a week for our honeymoon to the Western Carribean--7 days away with no outside communication and to finally focus on just us.

Anyone who has gone on their honeymoon already have good tips? We're cruising if that helps. :)

Re: Honeymoon Tips?

  • If you're going with Royal Caribbean, H and I did that cruise in May!  And I hope you are, because it was fantastic! Go to shows, because they have so many different ones, you should be able to find something you would like, and their performers are all great. Also, if you're not doing excursions, spend some of the day at the port, and then go to the pool. The pool is swamped on cruising days, and so we avoided it unless everyone else was on shore. And if you haven't picked excursions, the Dunns River Falls in Jamacia are so fun. We did that with the Chukka Canopy Zipline, which was fantastic. If you're not going with Royal Caribbean, then, hopefully some of that will still be helpful. Haha. Have a wonderful time! And I loved being separated from outside communication. We spent a lot of time just sitting in bars (we particularly liked the views from Olive or Twist-again, if RC. ;) Haha.) and talking and reading. And enjoy the food. Eat as much as you can, because it's a tough transition back to normal life after. :)

  • Thanks! We're actually not doing RC, we're doing carnival cruise lines. But thanks for the tips! We're going to be gone for 7 days...and only 3 of them are excursion days and only 1 day at sea so I'll remember the tip about the pool.

And I understand about heading back to "real life." I am currently job searching because I moved with H to a brand new state and I am so frustrated by it that I am looking forward to having a week away from it. I am leaving my day planner and cell with my Mom in case anyone calls for an interview--so I'm hoping when I get back I'll be relaxed and getting ready for interviews so I might have a chance at getting back into that daily grind...hahaha. I am not bred to be in a house all day...

  • We cruised on our honeymoon! We went Norwegian to Bermuda. Have you cruised before?

  • Both of us have never cruised. My in-laws have and loved it so we decided to give it a try! We're hitting several places--St. Lucia, St. Maarten, Barbados...etc

We went on a cruise for our honeymoon. I had never cruised before either, and I LOVED it!!

Definitely eat anything and everything. The food was really good. And try going to 1 or 2 of the specialty restaurants on the ship too.

If you have a balcony then eat breakfast on it every morning! We did this, and it was really nice to just be by ourselves with the beutiful islands or ocean around us.

We went to St. Maarten... try to visit both the Dutch side and French side if you have time. The water there was soooo crystal clear. Not sure what your plan for there is, but our excursion at St. Maarten was an island tour and beach stop.  We did more active excursions on our other stops, but we liked having the one day to just relax on the beach and do nothing.

Explore the ship, sit by the pool, and enjoy those yummy frozen fruit drinks!  I miss them! haha

    Have a great time!  :)

  • A few tips, since you haven't cruised before:

-take a power strip, there's usually only one outlet in your cabin

-pack plenty of OTC meds (anything you think you may possibly need), it's going to be a pretty penny on the ship and hard to find in port if you need something. We have a med bag that we take, it usually has a bottle of pain reliever, allergy meds, nausea meds, Immodium, stool softener, cold meds, and sea bands. Also include things like band-aids of various sizes, neosporin, anti-itch cream, etc. Example: this time, I forgot a nail clipper and paid $12 (!!!) for one in Bermuda, it was the same Revlon clipper that costs $2 here.

-carry hand sanitizer with you and use it. Also try to keep your hands away from your mouth/face. Things like norovirus spread fast and quick and will totally ruin your vacation.

    -take sunscreen/aloe and use it

-soda programs are usually worth it if you plan to drink more than 2 sodas/day. We usually get one and sort of share it.

-check out www.cruisecritic.com and visit the message board for your cruise line, there will usually be great tips that are specific to your line/trip.

  • This was weird but we went to Jamaica on the HM and brought plenty of bug spray.  Never needed it.  Don't know why because it was really humid, but just no bugs!  On top of that, they actually confiscated it flying out of Jamaica (no problems flying in) and said that mosquito repellant was not allowed on airplanes.  Never knew that.  Good luck!

  • Eat, eat and eat!  You will starting eating the second you walk on the ship to the second you leave the ship.  Enjoy every second of it.  It's glorious to have food around you every turn you take.  Go to the shows on the ship.  They are unbelievable.  Have fun on your excursions.  They are once in a lifetime and you will have the best memories and photos from them.  Take time to just walk around the outside of the ship.  There are so many views, things to do and people to meet.  Also hang out on the ship at night.  We passed other cruise ships and night and to see them are fun with all the lights lit up, plus if it's late enough and not a lot going on on your ship, you can hear the music and people on the other.  Ships passing in the night!

I've never been on a cruise, but have a fantastic time!  Just relax, leave all your worries at home, and enjoy each other's company.  I'm jealous, I'll be starting my 3rd week back at work tomorrow =

    This is great advice!
