October Continental US Vacation
Hi ladies!
I'm hoping you can help us pick our next vacation spot. We'd like to go mid-October and our budget is about $2k +/- and we would fly out of Detroit and stay somewhere for 3-4 nights. We like food, wine, museums (like National History Museum, MoMA, etc), shows, festivals, and some other touristy things too. Not big shopper, gamblers, or athletes. We like a nice mix of relaxation and activity. Where do you think we should go? I've been to Orlando, NYC, Chicago, and San Francisco recently. I really like SanFran but am worried about doing that at around a $2k budget.
Thanks!
Re: October Continental US Vacation
I would recommend Seattle, Boston, WA DC, Santa Fe/Albuquerque, and San Diego. Whichever location you choose I would just make sure that you can obtain a direct flight to save time.
The weather in Seattle at that time of year could be iffy but you could get lucky and experience beautiful weather. You could spend one of your days out in Woodinville doing wine tasting.
You could do Ashville, NC. I would stay at the Grove Park Inn. They have a spa that is wonderful. Then you could visit Biltmore House, go hiking or driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway. That time of year the fall leaves are at their peak. You could also visit near by towns like Hendersonville, Chimmney Rock, etc. You will need to rent a car. You could fly into Asheville, Charlotte (1 1/2 hour drive) or Greenville, SC (2 hr drive). You probably cant get a direct flight into Asheville because its a smaller airport but you can at the other two.
I would also check out Charleston, SC.
Savannah, GA
New Orleans
I like the new england suggestions too - although leaf peeper season is $$$$
