Book Club Poll!

With all the positive feedback I got this morning I am going to go ahead with the book club idea! I think since June is almost half over we'll start the first book July 1st but we'll have it selected (probably a few months worth selected) within the next week or so. This will give everyone time to get the book for those that don't have a Kindle/Nook. We could either do the discussions one of two ways...

1. Take the first 3 weeks of the month to read the book then discuss the book during the last week in the month.

2. Just read and discuss as we go.

You ladies let me know which you prefer so we can all be on the same page.

So my questions for those ladies that are interested:

What are your top three genres to read?

What are three books that you are currently looking forward to reading?

I'm looking forward to starting this with all you ladies :)

Re: Book Club Poll!

  • I vote for discussion #1 method. Some weeks for me are busier than others and I might not be at the same point as everyone else.

As for genres, I read pretty much anything besides si-fi.

Two books on my to read list are kind of older books:

    Chasing Fire by Nora Roberts

Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult

  • I think discussion option #1 sounds good!

I will read whatever!  My biggest problem is that I never know what to read.  So, I'll be on board with whatever the group chooses!  I want to read 50 Shades of Grey, but I think most people have already read this!

  • I'd say #1...I'm a very fast reader, so I assume those people like me who would finish early would spoil the book for others!

Top 3 genres: fantasy, dystopian literature (probably falls into the sci fi category somewhat), mysteries

And then the random odd books that don't fit into any category, really.  Really the only books I won't read are horror or romance.

I haven't been book hunting lately, but the only book on my "to read" list on Goodreads that isn't part of a series of novels is 11/22/63 by Stephen King

  • I like number 1!

I will read anything...I mostly find myself readin chick lit just because it's a quick easy read but I like trying new things.

"Anyone can be passionate, but it takes real lovers to be silly"
  • I also like option #1

I'm open to most book genres. I just finished the Hunger Games series so I'm excited to start a new book!

  • Love this idea! I think #1 would work well also; my work schedule can get hectic.

I typically like fantasy/fiction/historical fiction.  I pretty much stopped reading when the wedding planning began, so anything came came up or became popular during that time span (within the past year or so) would be a great pick.

  • I also agree with method #1.

My favorites to read are historical fiction kinds of things, biographies, and I guess sort of fantasy things (Sookie Stackhouse/ Discovery of Witches- Sci-fi light, maybe?)- I will read pretty much anything but bodice ripper kinds of things, and super sappy chick lit (Nicholas Sparks makes my skin crawl).

Things I'm reading/ looking forward to reading:

The Great Gatsby (haven't read it since middle school & want to reread before the movie comes out this fall)

    The Chaperone by Laura Moriarity

The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen

The Shining by Stephen King (Never saw the movie, & have been to the Stanley Hotel a couple of times- Interested to see what the fuss is all about)

  • I agree with #1 option.

I love mystery, biographries, current books.  I really am not a huge sci-fi, horror, or romance novel girl.  But if you girls like those reads, I just won't read that book that month...no biggie!

I also LOVE Jodi Piccoult and am currently reading one of hers right now.  Looking so forward to this.

  • I like the first option the most.

If we read 50 Shades of Grey, I'm leaving ya'll. Otherwise, I'll give any book a chance.

  • i agree with the first method

as for genres i read just about anything but if i had to pick 3 id say mystery sci-fi/ fantasy and horror

  • i'd like to join!  i'm a somewhat slow reader (engineer by training, so math is my forte)  so i think method #1 would be the best choice for me so there are no spoilers :)

i'm just about done with the 3rd book in the hunger games series, so i like that sort of thing.  i like suspense type novels, pretty much anything by frank peretti or michael crichton, i'm not huge into sci-fi, but i could do some sci-fi lite like someone else mentioned.  and preferably not romance or horror or anything by nicholas sparks *blech*

i would like to read the great gatsby before the movie comes out this fall :)

  • I'd definitely be in. I like the first discussion method better. Gives everyone a chance to read the book, and with people reading at different paces it won't spoil anything for anyone.

As for genres.. i'll read almost anything.. or give it a try anyway! We aren't going to please everyone all the time... i'd say put up like 3 choices every month.. we can vote and then read the book with the most votes.

  • I too would vote for option #1, and like pretty much anything entertaining (mystery, suspense, etc...).  I'm not big into sci-fi/horror/romance novels, but would be willing to try whatever.  Like a few others, I'm just finishing the third Hunger Games book :)

  • sounds like a really cool idea ..id be in...but my genre is Romance..the steamier the better lol...Sookie Stackhouse, Twilight( books are better then movie believe me lol)...but im also into historical (civil war era)...Ive not read Harry potter, hunger games etc..so im lost there haha
  • Another vote for the first option.

I read like a lot of popular books, historical fiction, and fiction.  The only thing I really don't like is science fiction, but generall I'm up for anything.

  • I also like option #1 for discussion, and it looks like it's quite popular.

My top three genres are romance, historical fiction and mystery.

Three books I'm looking forward to reading: The Flight of Gemma Hardy, Gone Girl, Before I Go to Sleep

That said, I'm open to most anything from memoirs & history to chick lit and mysteries.  Looking forward to getting this started!
