Decorating Success and Fail

We are updating the girls room a bit for their "big girl" beds. TH spent all weekend painting while I was visiting family.

For Allison's room, we kept the same wall color - tan with pink stripes on 2 of the walls.  On the tan walls, he used stencils and painted flowers all over. It looks great!  He did a wonderful job.

Mia's room was blue with yellow stripes. I had found a greenish and blue comforter, so we were going to paint the yellow stipes green and one wall green. So now we have blue walls  AND......yellow with a slight tint of green stipes.  Crying   The green was't green enough. I'm so sad.  On the one wall that is painted all 'green", you can see a little more green, but on the stripe walls it look like it did before.  B  told me over the phone about the color but I was hoping he was being overly critical.

I will post pictures once we get the beds and rest of the decor up.

  • Did your husband use a tinted primer for the stripped wall? Getting a primer tinted the color that you are painting helps with coverage. The tinted primer will look way darker than the actual color you paint though, just as a warning. Maybe do that and then go over the wall with another coat of the paint as well. My H worked in the paint department at Menards in college so he know a lot about paint - although he can't pick out colors because he's color blind! :)

Glad to here that Allison's room turned out good though!

  • He didn't use a tinted primer. We knew we were screwed as soon as we took the can of paint to the car and saw the swipe of paint they put on the lid.  We should have brought the paint chip outside in the natural light. Lesson learned.   It actually looks good with the colors in the bedding. It's just a bummer not to have it look any different.  We do have some wall stickies we are putting up. so hopefully that will bring some more color to the room.

Pretty much every single room in our has been repainted and this is our first dissapointment, so I guess I can't complain.

  • Good to hear that the colors look good with the bedding! It's so hard to know what it's really going to look like until you paint. I'm always scared to buy new paint! :)

We haven't painted anything in our new house yet but I hope to do some new colors in time.

You'll definitely have to share some pics of the finished products. I think kids rooms can be so fun to decorate!

  • I hate that feeling once the paint's up and it's not everything you hoped it would be.  I hope once things are back up and in the room, it looks terrific.

I'm excited to see photos of their updates rooms.
