3 day trip in Feb?

We live in South Alabama and my parents have decided to "winter" down here for a month next year. So...DH & I have decided to plan a short trip away and leave DD with the grandparents We have a number of big family trips this year so are looking for an easy 3 day trip away. We have thought Vegas, but we don't really party; NYC but what is the weather like? London- is it doable in 3 days there and back.

Any other suggestions?

Re: 3 day trip in Feb?

  • My favorite long weekends are Vegas, NOLA and Savannah.  Boston too but it will be cold/snowy obviously.

  • Wherever you go, make sure you can get a direct flight to maximize time. Also, if you can add even an extra day I would highly recommend it so that you can have two full days without any travel.

I prefer warm weather destinations at that time of year, so some options include Arizona, New Mexico (Santa Fe), Southern California (LA or San Diego), Florida (Miami or Key West), New Orleans, and Savannah. Obviously in February many of these places I recommend won't necessarily be super warm, but I think they would be better destinations than compared to cold weather destinations at that time of year (i.e. Boston, New York, Chicago, etc).

I would NOT recommend going to London or anywhere in Europe for three days; even if you could get a direct flight from Alabama, the flight would be 7-8 hours long. If you had at least 5-7 days and if you could get a direct flight from Alabama, then I would say London would be doable.

  • You could also get to Salt Lake City direct if you like skiing.

Mexico Yucatan: Cozumel/Tulum/Playa del Carmen is a good quick warm weather trip.

  • I say Vegas!  It's not all about partying - you can relax and spend time at the pool, go to a spa, eat yummy food at some of the hundreds of great restaurants, shop, visit some attractions, see a show, and just walk the strip checking out the hotels.

Or go to California - Palm Springs, San Francisco, San Diego, Napa/Sonoma.  Also, there's alot of nice places to vacay in Florida...

  • What do you like? Cities, beaches, nature, history, adventure?

We are thinking of a long weekend sometime to Costa Rica (again). That time of year is their season so prices are high but you are planning early. Not sure if you can easily get a flight to Liberia (or San Jose). How about Puerto Rico? Not sure how that is be be are going for a few days in november before our BVI boat trip.
