trimmest AIO and pocket diapers

I had my baby shower yesterday - got so much stuff that I am overwhelmed and don't know how to begin organizing!

Now that I know my family is afraid of buying me cloth diapers, haha - I want to start building my stash for the post-newborn size.  I think we are going to ease our way into the cloth scene slowly since DH is still on the fence with the whole poop-disposal situation.  I'd like to try mostly AIOs and pockets for ease - any recs on the trimmest (but still absorbent) brands?

Also - does anyone know if CA Baby calendula cream is CD safe?

Thanks!

Re: trimmest AIO and pocket diapers

  • We use the calendula on Milo's dry skin but not as diaper rash cream. We use cb.

Im going to be straight forward. Cloth diapers are not trim. They are not disposables. milo has been in bum genius pockets since he was 3 weeks old. They were big looking but he was always an average size baby and could and still does wear age clothing right on time.

For the newborn stage I recommend ordering a cloth diaper trial. That way you see what works for you. Buying a whole bunch isn't very cost affective. Trying them in a trial is though and if it doesn't work for you, back they can go.

  • See, this is my problem with the trials - the ones that I am finding are mostly pre-folds, fitteds, and covers.  I do not want to deal with anything other than AIOs or pockets.  Boo!

I know cloth is more bulky than disposables - just seeing if anyone has found a decently trim pocket or AIO.

Is Milo in the 4.0s?  Do you like them?

  • Hi!

My current favorite right now is SoftBums.  They have two versions, the Echo, which is strictly an AI2 and the Omni, which is an AI2 or a pocket.  They have snaps or really nice velcro/aplix and they are one-size with adjustable legs.  So they are a great fit for my girl who has a skinny waist and really chunky thighs.  They are also one of the trimmer diapers I have.  I have a mix of Omnis and Echos since I like the ease of the AI2, but I also like to be able to add absorbancy for nights and naps.

Unfortunately, there really aren't any nice trim AIOs since everything is built in.  The Ones and Twos are trim, but my experience with them is horrible (and I've read a lot of bad reviews online).  From my own experience, the trimmest pocket is a Fuzzibunz Elite OS.  They have a great fit, but again, every diaper fits differently on every baby, so its good to try and assortment to see what works best for you!

  • Tracy,

I was literally just bugging Cara (who just posted) with these same exact questions last night.  She's a wealth of CD knowledge.

My DH is weirded out about the poop situation too.. so we're definitely looking into AIO's, AI2's and pockets.

I am thinking of buying a few different kinds to try, since like you said most of the trials are not really ending up being the exact kinds I want.  I'll let you know what we end up doing since we're a few weeks ahead of you!

  • My fuzzibuns and happy heineys are definitely the trimmest we have. We had Brooks in pre-folds as a newborn.

Thank you!  I will look into HHs as well.
