Baltimore "Sailabration"

Is anyone planning on attending the festival this weekend?

  • I'm not because we'll be on vacation, but I work at Harbor hospital which is one of the designated viewing sites for the Blue Angels performance and theres all kinds of special arrangements being made for employees as to where to park, etc. (luckily I don't work weekends).

The Blue Angels are doing a run through on Friday afternoon though and all employees are invited to bring their families and all, plus they're having an ice cream social for us. I'm excited that I get to see the performance even though I can't make it this weekend. Its during work hours so I'm not bringing DH or DD though.

  • No. I like the idea of it all, but the crowds, heat and lack of easy parking would make me grumpy. Plus, I'm not that into boats. ( I realize that this is a huge historic event.)

  • I'm glad you posted this b/c I hadn't even heard of it and my MIL and GMIL are going to the Hippodrome for the first time on Saturday and have no clue where they're going in the first place. I'm guessing they need to leave super early.

Jealous! I heard that you needed a ticket to view at HHC, is that correct? So it's only for employees of HHC, not the general public.

  • I forgot all about this! Darn, I'm running the Baltimore 10 Miler on Saturday morning, which means I need to run and then head home to shower before going back up to the harbor.

I think to get into the ice cream social, we have to show our HH badges, but they can't keep people from viewing the Blue Angels dry run, y'know?

  • I wondered what was going on downtown.  I saw preparations this morning.  We may check in out.
  • I saw some of the ships coming up the bay this morning while driving across the bridge. I'm hoping some are still coming up on my way home. But that will be the extent I see anything from this . Since I'm picking up DD this afternoon from DC, I might take her to Matapeake beach and watch some of the boats.

  • I'd love to stop by on Saturday and check it out, but I'm worried about crazy crowds and parking. E works in Canton and gets free parking in a lot near his building, so I'm wondering if there's a water taxi nearby - we could park at his work lot and ride over to the harbor on the taxi for an hour or two. His building has turned into a command center for various fire/rescue personnel related to the event, and he can see the ships coming up into the harbor. I'm so jealous.

My Mom went down today and said that while she didn't see a ton of ships, they did see quite a few and it was pretty cool.
