St Maarten 2013...advice needed

DH and I, along with two friends of ours, are in the EARLY stages of planning a week-long trip to St. Maarten next year. For right now, it's just us gals working on the details.

What we're really wanting is to find a condo/villa that's beachfront or at least short walking distance to the beach, with 2 BR, and a standard kitchen-enough so that we could cook and just relax at the house if we want.

We're interested in Orient Bay, or Maho Beach area. We've both been looking at websites and online reviews, and I think we'd rather work through an agency as opposed to renting from the actual property owner, Just to make sure everything is taken care of and we're sure haven't overlooked/forgotten anything/don't get completely overwhelmed in the process.

Anyone have any suggestions/ideas/ reviews of possible rentals/locations that we could check out/look into??

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

TIA

  • If you're willing to consider Grand Case, I would highly recommend the Bleu Emeraude. It's a small complex of apartments with full kitchens and beach-front balconies or terraces. Some of the units do have two bedrooms and a living room. It is literally right on the beach. Grand Case beach was gorgeous and there were so many awesome restaurants within walking distance to the hotel. The island is so small that if you're renting a car you can easily drive to the other towns for dinner, shopping, or just a day at a different beach. We did this a few times, but the beach was so beautiful and quiet (in July) that I never wanted to leave my lounge chair!

  • I would also suggest Grand Case. We stayed at the Grand Case Beach Club. They have units with 2 bedrooms, and all have their own full kitchens if you ever feel like cooking your own dinner.

We visited Maho and Orient Bay and while I liked visiting them, I absolutely loved the quiet of staying in Grand Case.

I definitely suggest you rent a car, we saw everything we wanted to on the island that way. We drove to where the ferries leave for Pinel Island one day, we drove to Orient Bay, Friars Bay/Happy Bay, Philipsburg, the supermarket...wherever.
