Mother's Helper help

Next month I'll be teaching so I can't be my usual half hour late to work :( In fact, I'll be working an extra two hours a day.

Mornings at my house are rough: J's up early and that's when I finish laundry, empty dishes, prep J's meals and tidy up along with an early AM nurse session and last minute pump session before I leave the door.  D(opey)H sleeps through all of this :/

For the month of July I was thinking of having someone come in from 6a to 8p to help with J so I can get out the door on time.

I'd like him or her to mainly play with J, but if he's napping, s/he can help with some light housekeeping.  How much should should I offer hourly?  I'd need someone for 8 hours a week for 4 to 5 weeks.  Anyone have a referral? I have a HS student in mind, but I think she may already have a summer gig lined up

Re: Mother's Helper help

  • I'd say between $5-10 an hour. Depending on the age and experience of the person. We had A's dc teacher babysitt onelce and I think we paid her closer to 10. If you can't find anyone let me know, I can ask at A's daycare which is right in town.

  • I think I'd pay more just because of the time of day.  Most HS/college aged kids wouldn't be up by then so I think that waking up early deserves a little more, plus since its limited hours and only temporary you want to make it worth their while.

I'd probably offer $100/week, which would work out to a little over $12 an hour for 8 hours.
