Sint Maarten - things to do / what not to miss?
Hi everyone! It's been a very long while since I've posted a question here, because most of our recent travel has been to places we have visited frequently.
But now - we have a nearly free trip to Sint Maarten from 7/29-8/5 (just paying my airfare and my meals)! DH will be doing soccer training there with a few of his fellow coaches in the morning with the local children, but we will have from 1PM on through the night free. What are some "can't miss" things to do? How about places to eat? We are staying on the Dutch side, I just don't know what hotel yet, I'm waiting for someone to get back to me on that.
Thanks for your input!
SAIF/PAIF absolutely ALWAYS welcome to respond!
Re: Sint Maarten - things to do / what not to miss?
We stayed on the French side and didn't go over to the Dutch side that often, but we did go on a sunset cruise aboard the Passaat that we loved: http://www.sailholiday.com/day-sails.com/Welcome.html
Walking around all of the shops in Philipsburg was fun too.
The other things we loved doing:
- taking a boat over to Pinel Island for the afternoon. We had a great time snorkeling there
- we drove to Friars Bay then hiked to Happy Bay - it was the most beautiful beach I think I've ever seen
- Orient Bay is a lot of fun
For dinner, you will have to go to Grand Case on the French side at least once if you can. The food was wonderful. Our favorite restaurant was La Villa.
Thank you so much Kristin, I really appreciate your response. I have heard that Grand Case is amazing, so that's definitely on our list for one night, just the two of us. It's going to be me, DH and three other guys who are also coaches and are good friends of ours. Yes, I'm the only gal going, but I'm fine with it - hey, a free trip to a Caribbean island, works for me.
We love to snorkel, so the afternoon boat ride over to Pinel Island sounds lovely. We'll definitely check it out. Thanks again!
