what brand dishwasher soap do you use?

I have always used cascade and I have the little pellet things of cascade right now but it is NOT cleaning the dishes. I have lots of plastic cups from my kids and they come out with a film on them. Also, is there a way to somehow check that the dishwasher is working correctly I mean it seems to be but it's about 10 years old and I have melted a plastic baby bottle in it once that melted onto the hot coils at the bottom. Any Advice?? TIA

Re: what brand dishwasher soap do you use?

  • I use Cascade and never had a problem.  I heard putting some vinegar in the dishwasher with each cycle helps to remove any build up soap etc.
  • thanks I've done that with the coffee maker but never thought about the dishwasher!
  • I use finish all in one or palmolive eco. Both work about the same. I have run a cycle with just vinegar.

  • I use cascade powder - plain, no lemon. I also use lemishine which helps with film.  and also vinegar at times. A lot of states have no phosphate detergent and the phosphates is what helps with film but I guess is not good for the environment!
  • I use the Cascade gel packs or Finish balls. I never had a problem with either. I don't have much that is plastic though.

Ooh, thanks! Never thought of that one - will have to give it a try!

  • Dawn Liquid. Its amazing. I feel like the powder leaves stuff on the dishes. Also, dawn can be used for the laundry...if you have grease or oily-type stains, just put a little on your clothes and use a toothbrush to rub it in, wash normally.
