Another Interview... but at what cost?

I got scheduled for another interview on Friday. It is for Kindergarten. I told my boss about it (because even if I call out sick she'll know it was for an interview since I've told her I'm looking). She told me she can't tell me what to do and will check the calander to make sure there are no major conflicts. If there aren't major conflicts she's ok with it, but if there are and I choose to go to the interview anyway she told me I'll be forfeiting my current position.

I am going to the interview NO MATTER what. I don't know what I'll do if I lose my current job and don't get hired to teach, but I feel it is a risk I have to take. I have to think of the future and my future family.

I feel like I am playing poker and I don't know what cards anyone is holding or what chance I have of winning.

  • I have no advice.  Just good luck and I'll be thinking about you.
  • It sounds like you know what you want and are willing to take the risks.  So I'll keep my fingers crossed and wish you lots of luck with your interview. And with your current job too for extra measure.

  • I hope there won't be any major conflicts with your current job. Good luck on your interview!
  • Good luck!

It seems I've started the interview circuit too.  Fortunately, so far I've been able to schedule them late enough that I can do them after work or only having to leave work an hour or two early.  Almost had one I would have had to have taken the whole day for.

  • That's wonderful that you got another interview! You must have an excellent resume/cover letter! As far as your current job, I say don't stress about it. If she choses to fire you then why don't you apply to be a substitute teacher. This way you'll make money, gain experience, and get your foot in the door. That's what I'm doing if I don't get a teaching position.

  • I think it is worth the risk. It may feel like poker, but you definitely won't get the job if you don't go.
