Now that I am off for the summer, I spend a little of my morning tea time lurking on the GBCN boards. I stole this from MM.
If you found out you were having guests and had just 1 hour to clean, what would you have to do to your house right now?
Re: How clean is your house?
You would think that since I'm off all summer, my house would be substantially cleaner than normal. Nope. Turns out I have a high tolerance for clutter. And apparently so does DH. But we have both been known to get into a cleaning frenzy every once in a while.
Since my baby shower was this past weekend, there is baby stuff everywhere and my guests would just have to deal. it's as organized as it's gonna be until we can move stuff into the nursery.
Other than that, I would have to wash a few dishes that are soaking in the sink, clean off the coffee table, kitchen table and counter. Maybe do a quick run-through with the swiffer. Maybe wipe down the powder room too.
ETA: I would also need to dust and toss the dying flowers on the table. I just noticed this now. Perhaps I should be making a list of things to do today, haha.
Dust and vacuum the first floor, remove the dog blankets from the sofa. It would take 40 minutes or less.We are not one for clutter or keeping extra stuff around.
We are well-trained from our recent experience of selling our house and keeping it in tip-top shape 24/7.
We are anti clutter. so i would just need to organize and vacuum and sweep down the counter tops.
our bedrooms are messy though because we still aren't done setting them up.
We both hate stuff out and clutter so the house is "tidied" every night meaning toys up and organized in their place, piles made on the counter of mail or whatever, sweep kitchen if needed, blankets folded and pillows displayed, sink emptied, laundry brought upstairs, backpacks put away in closet, shoes in the basket. It really helps and keeps me sane.
Otherwise I would do a quick dusting of the living/dining room (which I do every few days it seems), vacuum the area rug and obviously put away any toys that are out. And windex the front door to rid of all the tiny fingerprints

Not as clean as I would like it but presentable enough. For your run of the mill guest (read- not my mother or her sisters who are crazy) we would:
- vacuum
- quick spray of bathroom counter and swish the toilet
- wipe off kitchen counters
- maybe need to put some toys away depending on how Tornado Joe was feeling that day (we like to call him a J4 tornado- kid can wreck a room in seconds and hates things being put away)
I can usually knock this out in 30 mins or less.
This, exactly. No way in hell could I be ready in an hour, maybe a weekend...
I am obsessed with the house being picked up - nothing on countertops, no dishes in the sink, toys put back where they belong - everything has its place type of stuff.
My problem is that I am just not a deep cleaning kind of gal. While I keep the kitchen pretty clean it's the rest of the house I would be worried about. If I only had an hour, I would do the bathrooms first and then dust

Guests could come into the living room and three of the bedrooms without a problem. Other than that the house is a disaster area.
We have no ceiling in the downstairs hallway and are actually getting floors installed in the soon-to-be kitchen as we speak.
I am fighting a battle against drywall dust. Still we're getting there (slowly) and thanks to the bar area in our living room and the grill, we're coping ok.
Should have kitchen cabinets next week. No appliances, but cabinets are a good start!
Normally I'm pretty tidy and an hour would be plenty of time to run around and tidy up. Right now, not so much!
I would vacuum, wipe off kitchen/bathroom countertops, and put away toys and clutter. I also hate clutter and try to tidy up each night.
I have a panic attack if there are too many piles around the house, so if I start to feel like I'm going crazy, I just tell DH that I need a "10 minute cleanup" and we stop what we're doing and run around and tidy.
ETA: We also have one bedroom that is a complete disaster. It's basically my closet with piles of dirty and clean clothes. I just throw stuff in there and shut the door. It's getting worse and worse though, so that's on my to-do list for this weekend!
So do we! It is a nightmare that I just keep avoiding. True embarassing story - when we had the windows measured for blinds earlier in the year, when they gave me the measurements on a sheet, they labeled that room "closet room." I was mortified and knew right then and there we needed to do something.
DH's "office room" (read: spare bedroom where his desk and closet are located) is like this. Everything is just thrown in there. I honestly don't know how he gets any work done...I get stressed out when I go in to use the printer!
Eagles, I am not a deep-clean type of person either. We don't really do "spring cleaning" per se. I really hope I can convince DH to let me hire a cleaning service to deep-clean right before the baby comes!! I keep hinting, haha
LOL glad I'm not the only one. This morning I couldn't even walk through it to get to my clothing rack. I had to kick clothes out of my way, and I wasn't sure if they were clean or dirty. Yeah...I need to fix that this weekend.
