Re: who else hasn't...

  • I started the process and have a new ID, but that's as far as I've gotten.

  • I haven't yet.. but for a reason.

We just bought a house, and I have to wait to change it until after closing.. its really a mess! I signed some stuff in my maiden name, and some in my new name. So I have to  have my maiden name be what is at closing, but bring our marriage certificate to prove that I am Mrs. Sheeler now :)

  • haha  i'm a may 5th bride and i haven't yet, it's on the never-ending list of things to do though :-P
  • I haven't officially done it, but unofficially I go by Mrs./Dr. Ruiz now.  I haven't had time to go because I work during all the hours the SS office is open.  I do have several days off in July when one of my offices does their annual shutdown, so I am planning on taking one of those days to get it taken care of finally =]

  • I haven't yet due to the fact that we'll be traveling again at the end of my. Onto and would t have time to change my passport and didn't want some stuff in my new name and some in my maiden name.  It's unofficially been changed at work, when I got back from my honeymoon they had a new name plate for me :) I'll do it at the beginning of next month

  • I don't even have my marriage license back yet to change anything. Do I only have 1 credit card changed.
  • I can't because we are going to Jamaica in July and I didn't want to worry about not getting my new passport in time.

Were you originally going to and changed your mind...?

I have just done SS. The rest has been difficult because offices are only open while I am at work... and I don't have the kind of job where I can be making personal calls at...

  • We have to wait about a month down here to even get the certificate back.  Then, I'll start the process. We've got our hands full consolidating everything else right now anyway.

  • We also have to wait for the marriage certificate from the state - only then can we get started. Should be a fun experience :)  I did change my work email address though and some colleagues were kind of thrown off by it. I guess it takes getting used to for everyone, not just for us :)

  • I haven't and very well may not change it. It's MyLastName-HisLastName on our marriage certificate, but I still want to use only my maiden name professionally. I'm also a little too lazy to go through the process of changing EVERYTHING I have. Maybe one day I'll make the full switch. For now, we're both happy with the way things are. To use HisLastName socially, he insisted I added it legally first, and our marriage certificate is good enough for him. And for me, I still get to be MyLastName at work. All smiles :)
  • Our marriage certificate was waiting for us when we got home from our honeymoon (3 weeks after the wedding).  I had one final day off before returning to work, so I went to the SSA that day, knowing it was probably a mess on Saturdays, and I have conflicting work hours.

A week later I went to the DMV to get my license, and since then, I've been changing things as I come across them.  Once I had my new SS card, I was able to change it at work, and thankfully, they spread the word to my med insurance, dental insurance, 401k, etc..  That helped.

The best thing I did was hit up the SSA that day... I knew if I didn't do it then, it would probably be forever before I did it.  And I've heard that (at least in CT) there's a small window where the marriage certificate works as proof.  After that window, you have to go to court to get your name changed.  Forget that!

  • I havn't we just got the m.certificate in the mail on friday so I should get on that...I was going to wait until I applied for school agian since my diploma that I just gradded with (last week, YAY!) had to be in my maiden name since paperwork had to be done for it before the wedding, but now it doesnt look like I'll be going back to school as quickly, so I'm thinking I better change it sooner then later.
  • I went today to the social security office..pretty painless and short..my agenda was to get my license changed too, but I didnt do my hair or makeup..so it has to wait until next week (so I can take a pretty pic)..lol..I will change things by mail as they come in...Ive started the name change at work..my name tag is my new name..and co-workers are starting to adjust..I just read one post about graduating...now my wheels are turning..will my bachelors be in my married name?? oh no..I hadnt thought of that..eek
  • Whew!! Glad im not the only one..I feel so bad that I havent..but i work the times SS is open and its suchhh a pain around here..and cant do my ID till SS is done...ughhh..and have to do all those before bank can...ughh..but all my friends and family call me by new last name..makes me happy :)..just cant change it at work till all above are done...UGH Lol...eventually it will get done..eventually
  • I do not envy those of you who are waiting for their marriage certificates.  It was so easy in Ohio! I picked it up up to 60 days before the wedding and it was sealed, then the pastor signed it (there were 3 copies, one for him, one for me, and one for the state) and that was it! I've been carrying around the signed one from my pastor with the seal on it and that's as official as it gets. Looks like theres at least one upside to living in Ohio...
