Serious Talk About Job

I am going to talk with my DH tonight when he gets home from work, unfortunately not for another 6 hours, about my job. I think it is time for me to resign from my current position at the center. I plan on continuing my job search to get hired for this coming school year and it will be so much easier to schedule interviews without having to worry what my current job will say. Everyone at work is starting to be so rude to me and treat me differently because they know I am leaving if I get hired to teach elementary. People are being denied time off because I am going to interviews. It's not fair to anyone. I am burning myself out.

I plan to look for a part time job to help us while I continue my search for an elementary position. I know we will definitely be able to pay rent for July, but am not sure about August. I wish it didn't have to come to this.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you handle it?

Re: Serious Talk About Job

  • I wish you well with your decision. I haven't really been in that situation but I do think you have to do what is best for you and your hubby. Are you sure you don't want them to let you go so you can collect unemployment until you land a teaching job? But on the other hand you may need to use them as a reference so you don't want leave on bad terms. It's a hard call. Good luck Megan. I really wish you well!

  • I talked to DH for about 15 minutes when he was on lunch and he told me not to put in my notice. He gave the same reason you did. He said just let them replace me and let me go. That way we have a better chance of collecting. It is just so hard to stay there when I know everyone wants me to just leave already and is treating me poorly because of it. We're going to talk about it again later tonight, but I'm pretty sure for now the answer is to stay and put up with the attitudes I am getting. I wish a school would just hire me already!!!!!

  • I can't say I've been in the same position.  I've been in a job I hated but I always stuck it out until I found the next one.  While it makes great money sense to stick it out, it also makes it harder on you and your stress level.

Sending lots of positive vibes your way that you get a teaching job soon.

  • If you dont know where your rent money would come for August then it would be a wise decision to stay at your current job.

My sugestion is when you get asked for an interview and the time doesnt work for you ask for another time slot. I have never frowned upon a candidate because they couldnt come during a specific time or needed to reschedule.

  • I work 830-530 Monday through Friday and live an hour away from where most the interviews are happening. I have to miss work for the interviews :(

  • I'm sorry about your situation, Megan. I agree with Amity that if you aren't sure if you can pay your August rent, you should try and tough it out. I would say leave to preserve your sanity if there was any way you could scrape together the rent though. Good luck with everything. I hope you get a position soon!
