What else needs to be name changed?
I've done:
- Social security card
- Driver's license (what a trip that was- had a 40+ year old woman sit down on the floor and basically throw a tantrum that she couldn't break in line. Um, wtf??)
- Bank
- Emails/ Facebook/ Twitter/ Personal website
On the agenda:
- Voter's registration
- Checks
What am I missing?
Re: What else needs to be name changed?
*W4/I9 with your employer to get your new name on paychecks
*Any medical insurance policies
*Car insurance/registration
*Passport if you have one (although friends said that if you had to travel and still had your maiden name on it to just use your maiden name when booking the flight, so that one isn't as crucial)
I'm probably missing some too, but those are the ones that I can think of off the top of my head.
Planning Bio! Updated 05.02.12
I'm going to come back to this when I do all this next month.
Any professional licenses you have with the state (IE, to cut hair, practice medicine, etc.) Also updated your name/address with your alma mater if you want them to be able to keep contacting you.
Good call on the license! I would have completely forgotten to do this. I think I have to renew mine in December so I can just wait to change it then.
I had to make sure my amazon account was changed b/c my credit card name changed and they didn't match and I couldn't buy anything!
I had to change my name with the registrar office at school and with the state board of nursing.
Did you update your cell phone company?
ugh, i need to make a list. the closest SS office is 3 hours from here so i pretty much have to take a day off work, it's so frustrating.
how long did it take to get your SS card back with your new name? don't you have to wait to get that back before you can change it other places? we just got our marriage license back so i've been filling out the paperwork i can print from the internet to *hopefully* be prepared.
My BFP Chart Danger Love Blog
Thanks, ladies- Totally didn't think about my credit card & car stuff
@comeongetdown- SS card info goes through within 24 hours. I got the physical card in less than a week. But- No one has asked to see the card, so as long as it's changed in the SS system, I think you'll be fine
Formerly on the knot as: cswooley
I think everyone got everything. Some states are different... in MA you don't need to have new SS card to get drivers license...
So far I have just done SS... I think for now it's the most imortant. I have done magazine subscriptions, and FB and my email.
It's a process, but the only name change I will have to pay for is a new drivers license ($25) and a new registration ($25). Not sure about other states, but in MA you have to do them both at the same time.
