Open houses

There is an open house my SO and I would like to attend.  We have a REA and have been looking at houses for a while.  Should we plan on taking her with us or is this something we do on our own?

Re: Open houses

  • If you feel comfortable looking on your own your realtor will probably not mind you looking on your own. Be sure not to give the seller any information about yourself which could hinder your negotiations later if you decide you like it. Happy House Hunting.

  • We never went to open houses with our Realtor; it would have been a waste of her time. If we had liked the house, we would have gone back with her. That said, once we hired a REA, we pretty much stopped going to open houses; we tried to have our REA set up viewings where it was just us.

  • Do not sign the registry.

When asked if you are looking for a house - tell them yes, and we have so and so as our realtor working with us.  It makes it clear that should you want to buy this house - your realtor would represent you

  • It is ok to sign the registry but put next to it that you have a REA.  The home owner likes to see how many people toured the home.  It is fine to look at them on your own as long as you are tell the showing agent that you have a REA and tell your REA that you went so he/she knows your feedback on it to help him/her in finding a place for you.
