How long will a bottle of wine keep?

Un-opened white wine (or blush) in the fridge for 2 years - yay or nay?

  • PS: I Googled this and got unclear results which is why I'm asking here. I know it's a Google-able question.

  • Is it still the original color? I think I heard at a wine tour that white wine keeps for 2-3 years unopened. Red wine is like 5-7 years.

  • It might taste okay since it's still unopened. If you're having a party or something, I would get another bottle just in case though.
  • Two years in the fridge unopened? How does that HAPPEN? I'm lucky if a bottle of wine last two days in my house!

Anyway, I would open it myself, but probably not try to serve it to other people.
  • I have SO much wine that is YEARS old...honestly, it depends on the wine...local ones typically aren't meant to be kept that long but some wines get better with age...honestly, I would open, taste and if it kind of sucks, use it for cooking. I have about 3 bottles of "cooking wine" open now

I know, it's crazy! But we don't drink wine and someone gave it to us as a gift. "We know you don't drink wine, but we brought you this anyway." Okay....in the fridge it goes.

  • If they gave you that wine, knowing you do not like wine then it sounds to me like they really wanted to re-gift it because they didn't like it either. So who knows how long it was in their fridge for.

I assume you don't want to drink it yourself so I would throw it out.

This would make sense, but I know they bought it for us at a winery on their honeymoon. We will probably test it and then use it for cooking.
