We're showing our home tomorrow! What should I be sure to do before they come?

I need help to prioritize what should be done prior to the private home viewing that is scheduled for tomorrow at 4pm? What are the must-dos? What things do you always notice or look for?

THANK YOU!!!

Re: We're showing our home tomorrow! What should I be sure to do before they come?

  • When I am looking at homes as a buyer, it always makes me uncomfortable if I see personal things in the home. By personal things, I don't just mean pictures (though I don't like to see those either), but things like your calendar with your upcoming events on it, and phone numbers hanging on the refrigerator. Things like that make it really hard for me to see myself living there - I feel like I don't belong there, and it's a big turn off for me.

Also, make sure the dog poo is cleaned out of the yard!

  • Make sure the house is bright with light, especially in the entry way. Open all the blinds.
  • That's really important thing for me! Thanks. Will do!!
  • Dog poo, check!

We do have personal things, a few pictures splashed here and there.  I can eliminate a few of those things easily.  No calendars or sticky notes anywhere. Any other personal things that you think I should check out?  I just don't want to commit faux pas!!

Keep the ideas coming, I really appreciate it!

  • Mow the grass, declutter, remove items on fridge (lots of magnets, pictures, etc), vacuum, remove excess items on kitchen counters

  • Windows sparklingly clean.  Front door clean - paint if necessary.  All cabinets and closets only 1/2 full and neat. (remove stuff if needed)

No more than one kitchen appliance on the K counter and no more than 3 items total on the counter.

Cut the grass, trim the bushes, trim the edges of the grass.

You want everything clean and neat.

    Remove personal items.

Bathroom - clean towels and personal items put away.

Remove some furniture and artwork and make the rooms look "sparce" to you - store in the garage or other area.

All minor repairs DONE! No loose door knobs, holes in screens etc.  People think if you ignored the small stuff that the bigger stuff was also ingnored.

IF you have no flowers near your entry  - a potted plant is nice.

Cut flowers on a table, counter - someplace in the house.

Very soft relaxing music playing in the background.  All blinds and drapes open with the lights turned on.

    Clean the fridge.

    Neat laundry area.

Make it look like there is excess room and storage -

How you show your hose to sell is not how you live in your house.

  • Thank you for all the input! We cleaned, decluttered, removed, and staged our home like crazy people today! It was a busy day, that's for sure!

I don't know the outcome of the showing yet, but I am hopeful.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will let you know what we learn!!!
