Ahh, less debt

I paid off my car today, wahoo!!!!

Now if only said car's check engine light would stop lighting up. Sigh.

Its just been wasting space for months now, I need to find a new shop. The lady we took it to is family of a guy H and BIL were friends with in high school. I never met her until the last time we brought it in for a tune up and inspection. She did $380 worth of work on it without telling us, when I was expecting a $250 job. Then told me that parts and tires for it are really hard to find. It's a freaking 2001 Lexus and like the cheapest model they ever made. I think she's full of it.

At any rate, it's one less payment to worry about.

  • Woo hoo!  We're still paying off DH's Hyundai Genesis.  Ugh...only a couple more years!  But then it'll be time for me to get a new car.  It never ends!!!!  And my car's check engine light is constantly on as well!  Can't figure out why either...when they scan it, it says something about the gas cap and an O2 sensor...which we've replaced both!  Congrats on paying off your car!

  • Congrats! I know the good feeling too! I just paid off mine last year before the wedding - I call it my dogmobile since my dog loves cruising in it. Unfortunately I resumed paying my federal student loans, so it took the place of the car payments. I always paid the private student loans since the interest is ridiculous and I want to get rid of that debt as soon as I can! I accidentally banged into my garage siding the other day and I'm scared of how much it will be to replace the plastic thing on the side that I screwed up. Definitely not going to Honda since they will charge an arm and leg, so will search for someone cheaper!
  • Oh no!  That sucks!  Hope it's not too expensive.  Yes, dealerships are a rip-off!  Before I met DH, I always took my car to the place where I bought it at for oil changes and all that jazz because that's what my parents always did.  DH almost had a cow with how much I was getting "ripped" off there!  So, needless to say, I don't take it to dealerships anymore!

  • Hooray for paying off your car!

I had a car that blew through O2 sensors like it was it's job. If you can, have them check the mass sensor (sp?) because that was what was blowing all my O2 sensors. But you can drive without worrying about those.

  • Yay.. that's a good feeling!!  But it never fails, you pay off the car, and then you have to throw a bunch of money into it to keep it running.  I paid off my car right before the wedding.  I've already had a bunch of work done.  And, now whenever I'm +/- around 60 mph my car shakes like crazy and I feel like the tires are just going to fly off.  Kinda an uneasy feeling since I drive 60+ miles a day.

That happened with my car. We replaced the patrons and had a new engine mount installed. It's still not 100%, but it has other issues.

  • I paid my car off about two and 1/2 years ago. It was the best feeling EVER!

Except a month after I paid it off I hit a guard rail...So now it has a good sized dent...

  • Woohoo! Can't wait until I pay off all my debt.

  • That's awesome, congrats to you! That is definitely a good feeling for sure. DH and I are actually moving to NC in a couple of months and setting up house with his parents for a yr or so, so we can pay off *ALL* of our debt.Luckily, both of our cars are paid off so we only have two very small credit cards and then my out of state student loans which are redonkulous *sheesh*. I can't wait until we can finally say we are debt free!
