I literally just had a complete panic attack in the shower. I felt something on my upper thigh/hip and when I looked down to see what it was, it looked like a big. Immediately I started to panic and screamed for Jimmy. He took one look, said it was a tick and that I needed to sit down (mind you I'm hysterically crying at this point) . Thankfully he was able to remove the entire tick, head an all, with a pair of tweezers. I was so upset and scared, and I made him wake up Katie and check her from head to toe just to be safe. Luckily, she didn't have any.
My father in law is in the pest control business and is going to send the tick out for testing just to be sure (we looked it up online and it's not supposed to be a lime disease carrying tick)
Maybe I over reacted, but it really scared me. I have never had a tick on me before and it really freaked me out . Now of course I'm worried about ever going to the lake again ![]()
Sorry for the long post, but I'm so upset and just needed to vent.
Re: I just found a tick on me!
If it's big, you probably don't have to worry. My parents live really close to the woods so we used to get them all the time growing up. It's actually a small percentage of ticks that carry disease so it's pretty unlikely you'd get sick.
Just watch the stop and if you get a bullyseye type rash, see a doctor. You can also get bug spray that repells ticks (Deep Woods Off is what we use). I'd use that instead of swearing off lake trips!

You do know that most ticks are totally harmless right?
My dad had 5 on him one day and my brother was boasting he beat him with 6 after a hike.
If it was big enough for you to see easily you have absolutely nothing to worry about. My brother said he treated his clothes with some stuff that lasts through 6 washes and he is an avid hiker and hasn't had any ticks since doing that. He uses Frontline on his dog and she has been fine.
