So much smoke!

You may have heard that there is a huge fire here in Colorado. It's at High Park and started Friday. It is now over 43,000 acres. High Park is 141 miles from my work and about 153 mikes from my house. When I woke up this morning I couldn't figure out why it was so foggy. Normally we get some fog in the winter or really early in the morning if there was enough moisture. But not at 8:30am in the middle of June. It wasn't until I opened my garage door that I realized it was smoke from the fire. It is HORRIBLE.

My job is right next to a smaller airport and since Friday the planes that put out fires have been non stop. Over the weekend it was only 2 planes and we didn't see them as frequently but yesterday they had 3 going in rotation and it was every 35 mins or so.

I hope they are able to get it at least a little contained soon. I have asthma and get migraines so easily and this smoke has triggered the asthma pretty bad and I've had headaches all weekend. Granted in much more concerned for all of the homes, people and animals that ate suffering in the fire zone. One woman has died, it appears that she wouldn't leave her home and they went up to get her and she had died. :(. She was 65.

I was driving so not the best pic but you can see the smoke and normally that view would be big beautiful mountains.

Re: So much smoke!

  • I don't know how to make these pics smaller.

This was two days ago, it's one of the planes that dump either water or chemical in the fire.

  • I've been following the news on the fires for work and it sounds really sucky. I hope they get it contained soon!
  • I could see the smoke where the fire is from my bedroom window last night it is crazy.  I use to live in Fort Collins for 5 years - I miss it.  I hope that it dont keep destroying houses.  It is so sad.  It was 2 miles from my college's stadium a few days ago.  My cousin lives in Loveland and they had their windows open (forgot to close them) and they had a big layer of ash all over everything in their house.

I see that you are expecting a little one.  I am very happy for you  both!  I am hardly on here - I just lurk from time to time.  I need to keep in touch with you more.  Hope all is well.  You are still in the Henderson area right?
