Re: How was your weekend?

  • Highs? Went to the Catoctin Zoo with my Dad. Had a great time and saw baby meerkats and baby emus. OMG. Also hosted a cookout for father's day and everything was delicious. Also got our new fake rock to cover up the ugly well cap in the front yard and planted flowers and grasses and mulched around it. Lows? I started to get a bad headache after we ate at our cookout and I couldn't wait for everyone to leave. Watch anything good? Wasn't thrilled with the season finales of Girls or Nurse Jackie. I still haven't watched The Killing or True Blood yet. Eat/make anything good? Had a delicious lunch at Carterque on Saturday. Yesterday the cookout food was really good - steak, grilled tomatoes, broccoli cheese bacon casserole, twice baked potato casserole, waldorf salad, baked beans and I made cakes that looked like fish for the dads. Read anything good? Finished listening to April in Paris and I'm listening to All the Pretty Horses. Still reading Jodi Picoult's Handle with Care. What are you looking forward to this week? I took off today to do nothing but read, sew, go to the park and goof off. Also getting a massage and facial this weekend! FFCs, vents, AWs, comments, etc? I can't think of anything yet.
    • Highs? We had a great day with DS on Saturday taking him for a haircut and shoes. Then DS and I had a good day on Sunday while DH was golfing and then a fun time when DH's fam came over for dinner.
    • Lows? We went to my parents' on Saturday evening and the only reason I call it a low is because it is exhausting to chase DS around someone else's house.
    • Watch anything good? Not really.
    • Eat/make anything good? Spinach balls for an appetizer on Saturday, and peach crisp for dessert on Sunday. DH grilled steak on Sunday and it was awesome!
    • Read anything good? No.
    • What are you looking forward to this week? Hopefully going to *finally* get my rings resized tomorrow so I can actually wear them again.
    • FFCs, vents, AWs, comments, etc? My dad drives me CRAZY!!! At their house on Saturday, he grilled steaks. He always grills and takes orders for meat temp and yet everything comes out med-well. No biggie - it's tricky to get it exactly right. He made this big deal about how he read up on how to cook the perfect steak (let it rest after, etc) but *refused* to use the meat thermometer I got him (it would take too long, apparently) and instead insisted on cutting into each steak during cooking to see if it's done. And then they all came out med-rare which is not what anyone asked for. I'm not complaining about him not cooking the perfect steak, but he's so STUBBORN!! You can't brag about your super cooking skills and then make a rookie mistake over and over again while claiming it's a superior method! Oh yeah, and he raised a toast at dinner...to himself (as in literally "a toast to me!!"). Who freaking does that.

    • Lows? Caroline not sleeping all that well on Saturday night.
    • Watch anything good? no
    • Eat/make anything good? We had baked salmon and corn on the cob yesterday for Father's day.

    • FFCs, vents, AWs, comments, etc? I've been looking at SFH in the area (both Harford and Anne Arundel County) and I'm excited about looking again. What I'm not looking forward to again is packing/decluttering and moving.

    • Highs? Everything - it was a great weekend!  Went to Baltimore on Saturday, had a great lunch at the Inner Harbor and then walked around looking at the ships and saw the Blue Angels; and then rushed to Gaithersburg for dinner w/ DHs' family for Father's Day; yesterday walked to our neighborhood Farmer's Market, ran into Madlady and her fam, then went to the pet store w/ DD and grabbed lunch; DH took DD on a bike ride and then we went to my parents for Father's Day cookout - DD was a total ham and I didn't have to do any work!!
    • Lows? I'm kinda tired - we were running around like monkeys all weekend.  DD was a little off all weekend, possibly getting sick, but a total trooper.
    •  Watch anything good? no
    • Eat/make anything good? We had some yummy tapas at Tasca on Satruday and bonus, fabulous sangria (which I normally don't like!)
    • Read anything good? I finished the Andy Cohen book (shame!) and downloaded a bunch of Jennifer Weiner and Jen Lancaster books for vacation next week.

    • What are you looking forward to this week? Short week - leaving for vacation on Friday!!  And then I'm off for almost 2 weeks!
    • FFCs, vents, AWs, comments, etc? I have to do my performance review meetings this week, I'm still procrastinating on these from last week!!

Normally my dad just walks off and burns the meat! It's so freaking annoying. That's why I let DH grill instead.

    • Highs? The pool party we went to on Saturday. I loooooove getting in the water, I was surrounded by incredible friends, and M had an amazing, amazing time. It really was a wonderful afternoon.
    • Lows? Still being stiff and sore, and not getting much done around the house at all.
    • Watch anything good? Last night's True Blood. And it was nice to force M away from cartoons on Saturday morning so that we could watch Jeff Corwin together. I was fascinated by ocean life as a kid, and I wanted her to get a glimpse.
    • Eat/make anything good? I made S'Mores Brownies for the pool party that were apparently a hit.
    • Read anything good? I'm reading The Golden Lily (Bloodlines #2) by Richelle Mead on my Nook.
    • What are you looking forward to this week? It being over.
    • FFCs, vents, AWs, comments, etc?
    • Vent: I've come to find that when I tell a medical professional that I'm a hard stick (meaning getting a vein on me is very difficult), they seem to see it as a flucking challenge, determined to prove me wrong. And yet, they simply prove me right, in the process causing me extra pain and bruising just because they want to try to be different. I had to have blood drawn this morning and it took three tries before they got it, and those tries involved a lot of rooting around. I was ready to punch someone by the time I left.

    • Eat/make anything good? banana bread last night
    • Read anything good? nope
    • What are you looking forward to this week? I'm not sure. getting paid I suppose
    • FFCs, vents, AWs, comments, etc? I feel like my CW and I are getting disrespected at work. we have been busting our azzes here for 2 straight months (which is why I havent been around much) trying to meet impossible deadlines. I seriously feel like 2 constant months of stress contributed to my appendicitis. and now we are getting talked down to like we are children. I am *this* close to telling a certain someone here to buzz off.

  • Highs? Wine tasting party and seeing Kathryn at the Farmer's market.

Lows? Waking up with stomach cramps on Saturday night, or the fact that I have a cold/sinus infection and will be flying this week.

Watch anything good? Watched a few episodes of  'Mad Men'

Eat/make anything good? Lots of great summer wines (there were 5 red and 5 white to try), and the different cheeses.

No reading - I just finished "Light from a Distant Star."

Looking forward to my conference, I think, or at least having a few days off with DH and DD.

Vents - DD's napping schedule was screwed up this weekend, so she was a hot mess by Sunday night. DH and I took turns trying to put her down. She was tired - crying/whimpering, but not wanting to sleep. I think she might also be teething. While I will be glad for her to finally get some (she doesn't have any), I have a feeling it will happen while we are at my conference.

    • FFCs, vents, AWs, comments, etc? DH and I had plans to go to DC today but I started feeling bad last night and I woke up this morning feeling even worse so we decided to postpone our trip until next Monday. I feel bad because DH was so excited.  He's taking really good care of me so I feel even worse about disappointing him.

    • Highs? We got back from an awesome vacation in Martha's Vineyard and had a fantastic Fathers Day celebration.
    • Lows?  DH woke up Sunday at 6 am and our back door was half way open and one of the cats was gone, we searched for hours, put up signs, and finally a neighbor spotted him late Sunday night.  DH most likely didn't close the door all the way when he got in from walking the dogs and the cats got it open and the one left.  The other might have gone out and come back, because he was still there in the morning (he knows where the food comes from!)
    • Watch anything good?  True Blood 2nd episode!
    • Eat/make anything good?  Our annual Fathers Day crab feast with the IL's
    • Read anything good?   I read a good murder mystery on vacation
    • What are you looking forward to this week?  not much
    • FFCs, vents, AWs, comments, etc?
