Hi all, I'm popping over from GP.
Between going back to school, a very busy job and travel for work, I'm finding it hard to keep up with the housework. I've never had a housekeeper before and I received a rec from a close friend of mine. if anyone has used one I have some questions for you!
- What are some questions I can ask her during the initial meeting?
- What are some common expectations of housekeepers? (laundry, folding and putting away clothes, loading/unloading dishwasher?? <-- All the tasks I hate lol)
- Are there tasks that most housekeepers WON'T do? (i.e., cleaning cat litterboxes. I would NOT expect this, it's fairly obvious....but is there anything else that would be off limits?)
Any other helpful suggestions are welcome and thank you for your insight!!
Re: Housekeepers/Cleaning ladys?
My experience is they do the basics, - change the linens on the bed (put dirty linens by washer), clean bathrooms, tub, sinks, floor, toilet; clean kitchen counters, appliances etc. Mop floors, vacuum carpets, dust furniture. They will probably not do laundry, takes way too long, and clothes are too specific, they may load but proably not unload the DW (and not know where everything goes). Empty all trashcans
ask about what cleaning products they need or if they provide, what other equipment they need you to have or will they use (vacuum etc).
You can certainly ask about the cat litter box but I don't think I'd even !
Definitely ask exactly what the service includes, if she brings her own supplies or if you need to have supplies on hand. Ask if you can add on services that maybe she doesn't include in her regular service. I lived at my parents house until a couple of years ago and we had a couple who cleaned out house. They basically vacuumed, mopped, scrubbed toilets/showers/tubs, wiped down counters, washed windows, basics like that.
Once in a while they would do extras for extra money like the husband would help put up christmas lights, etc.
