After interview (6/11) told they would call w/in 24 hours, no word...

I am returning to school & need a job with retail hours to work around my school schedule.  I applied at Starbucks around 8 pm on Sunday night (6/3) and they called at 7:55 am Monday morning (6/4) asking if I still needed a job.  I called back and the manager asked "if I was just going to work during the summer or if I was looking for long term employment" I told him long term employment.  He asked me to stop by the store on Monday (6/11) between 10-12.

When I got to the store on Monday (6/11) he forgot we were even suppose to meet and was unprepared.  He asked me the same "if I was just going to work during the summer or if I was looking for long term employment" question and said it is really expensive to train someone.  Then he told me working at his store is really fun and really easy & he doesn't care what else I'm doing they can work around it.  As long as I don't quit after a few months.  Then he asked where I lived & said another location also needs someone so he would check with them & call me w/in 24 hours.

I hadn't heard anything so I called on Friday (6/15) and today (6/18) but was told he was out or just stepped out.  Should I call once more or just start looking for something else?   I haven't worked in retail in a quite a while so not sure if all this is norm.

Thanks!

Anniversary

I've gotten the run around before. In those cases I usually try to get a hold of them for a few weeks and then move on. If they really wanted to hire you they would interview you or at the very least set up an interview with you. So call once more if you want to but continue to look elsewhere as well.

Job hunting sucks. (I know, I'm also hunting.) GL.

EDIT: Reading comprehension fail, you were interviewed. I'd still call once more at the end of this week (6/25) and continue to job hunt. They can take forever to get back to you. It's really frustrating.

  • Thank you!! GL to you as well. =)

  • This is pretty typical for retail.  I just left my retail position but it took my managers two weeks to contact a person, and they would set up an interview for another two weeks out, and then the person (if hired) would start a month after that.  Although it seems laid back and easy, there is a lot going on in those positions.

I agree with PP if you haven't heard anything in the next week or so I would keep looking.
