Vegetarian recipes - gout
So, right before we went on vacay DH came down with a case of the gout. So random, because we eat fairly well, don't drink alot, and he's not obese. The dr said there's an increase in gout in healthy men in their 40s - even those that don't fit the normal risk factors. So, now we're going to do more to cut out purine rich foods - including red meats - so I need some vegetarian meal options.
Any good books/blogs/recipe sites that you use for everyday recipes? TIA!

Re: Vegetarian recipes - gout
I'm so sorry! Is he uncomfortable?
Most of my recipes are meat free, or if they do have meat, it's only a slice or two of bacon for flavoring. http://localfoodlady.blogspot.com/
My dad has gout and eats tons of fish, some poultry, and only a tiny bit of red meat.
I know things have changed since he was first diagnosed, but I remember there being a long list of foods that he couldn;t eat and it included cherries, which always makes me sad for him.
Vegetarian Resource Group has a lot of good links for all things veggie and vegan:

Thanks! So, Mel - cherries are actually supposed to be one of the GOOD foods for him b/c it's got some compound in it that lowers uric acid. Something like 6-8 cherries a day are what some people say helps although it's not FDA approved. DH only needs to take meds when he has an episode for now. Hopefully that's not too often if we can hold it off through diet. He's mostly pissed about the beer thing!
Lachute - good idea about the ground turkey. I use ground beef for several go-to dishes and don't want to lose those in my rotation. A few websites I read said pork and lamb are considered red meat too, which is a bummer. High fat fish and shellfish are off the menu too, including tuna. I think salmon is ok. We're not going to be super strict since it's only happened once, but it put the fear of Gout in him. haha!
Can he do cheese and eggs? I'm going to try making this sometime this week (found it on pinterest). DS hates veggies and quinoa so I'm going to try hiding them in cheddar cheese.
