Liquid or powder laundry detergent???

What is your preference and why?

I've always used liquid probably because that's what my mom uses but I have no other reason.  My washer is a bit of a pain because the water stops whenever I open it and I always like to get the soap in there to mix in before I throw in the laundry.  It's a dumb problem I know.  I just wonder if using powder would be simpler since i can toss in all the laundry and then toss in the soap without worrying about gettign the soap to dissolve to avoid soap stains.  Does that make sense?

Anyhow, now I"m just curious if one is better than the other.  Thanks!

  • Its based on your preference. They both do the same thing.

  • I use liquid.  Honestly, I don't like the way the powdered soap felt on my fingers (because of course there was always a bit on the scoop handle).
  • I always use Liquid.  My mom always has, so that's what I buy.

  • When you use powder detergents, you should add it before the clothes anyway. Putting it in on top of  your clothes won't dissolve the powder and it will come out in little clumps when you finish washing your clothes.

  • I used powder a few years ago, but I generally use liquid. It's just easier for me.
  • I recently made a batch of homemade powder laundry detergent, but I find it has trouble dissolving in cold water, so I only use it when I wash our sheets in hot water.  Otherwise, I like liquid for everything else!

  • I've heard liquid is better for front loading washers, so that might be a consideration. When I was growing up we used powder, but I found it often left streaks on darker colors, so when I was a teenager I started buying my own liquid detergent, have never had that problem even with cheap liquid detergents.
