so m will never get processed white bread again.

holy poop. we had a real life choking incident this weekend. I bought him a turkey dog yestarday while we were eating in the park. and i was being super anal and cut up the dog in little pieces and the bun in small but not tiny pieces because he eats bread well. except i wasn't planning ahead on how white bread/rolls get mushy and ball up (we don't eat it at home). and yeah he some how molded a piece into a perfect grape size circle in his mouth. he was behind p and all of sudden it happened and he ran up to me panicing/ choking, p grabbed him after i was like he's choking and smacked him between the shoulder blades and he threw it up in his mouth and p swipped the rest ball out.

we took care of it so freaking calmly and robotic and it was over in seconds, but after we processed it, we were like HOLY POOP.

otherwise good weekend.

  • This reminds me that I have to get off my duff and take a child CPR/Lifesaving class. My plan in situations like this is to panic. I should probably have a better plan.

  • I'm goiNg to be honest we never took a class we are just calm during emergencies. We did YouTube videos before we started solids. I'm glad we knew what to do. It was a scary couple of seconds.
  • Wow - we are in the midst of BLW and this is my every fear!

  • Jeez!  Sorry for your scare lachute!  Glad you kept a level head though.
  • Wow how scary!  Glad it all turned out ok.

  • He usually eats crunchy foods so again it was a texture we weren't aware of. Plus now that I google I know I'm not the first. BLW is a great method m'a issue was moving around white bread to chew made it into a ball.
  • This is my biggest fear, omg, so sorry you had to experience this, but glad you knew what to do.

DH and I talk about this all the time but I have yet to sign up. I used to know everything when I had to be certified to lifeguard but I feel like everything has changed so much since then.  I also would like my mom to go since she watches the baby all week for us. Maybe I'll tell her I'll pay for it if she goes with me.

  • Wow, so scary. That's one of my biggest fears.

Big Lar and I took a baby CPR class before we started solids. It made us so much more comfortable with feeding solids. Seriously guys, go do it. It's so important. We've had a few near misses and I felt like I knew what to do.

Ditto, we took ours when I was still KU the first time.  It really is worth it.

  • I think it's important to do whatever makes you confident. Also just occasionally reviewing is key.

I agree to a certain extent. In a case like choking, however, it's very common for people to panic and not know what to do. If you've had training, you have a chance for the training to kick in and go on autopilot.

Plus, people can be confident but if they're doing something the wrong way it can cause more harm and waste valuable time.

this is what I was saying. That being said some people will always panic. That's just a given
  • Adding a CPR class to my list of things to do.

    Glad Milo is ok!!
