Restaurant Recommendation

DH and I are looking to try a new restaurant this weekend for date night in or around GR.  Any recommendations?  We like fresh, local, beer, non chain...any good ones out there?
Anyone can be cool, but awesome takes practice!

Founders downtown? New Holland Brewery out in Holland?

  • The Groove http://groverestaurant.com/

I haven't been, but everyone raves about it.

Start off at Mangiamos for their happy hour from 4 - 6 pm for a drink ($2 beers and $3 wines) and an appetizers (1/2 off select ones) and then walk down to the Groove. There is also Green Well across the street.

    Brewery Vivant  http://www.breweryvivant.com/

I think there is one other new Brewery in that area aoslo.

  • We've been to Founder's out to Holland, and Vivant.  Vivant has an awesome summer menu just rolling out!  Havn't tried the Grove. Might be a possibility.  Thanks. Smile

  • Harmony Brewing near Lake and Wealthy is good. Great service, beer and the pizza is awesome.

ETA: Even if you don't make it for your date night, go some time with your kids. They were very welcoming of my son. Brought him apple slices, kids books, crayons etc. The servers had fun with him, playing peek-a-boo and making silly faces. There were at least 2 other families there on a Saturday night.

  • My H and I have very similar tastes! :-) We went to Grove the other week and it was GREAT.  It is slightly pricier and they didn't have beer on draft but a good bottle selection.  It's right next to Brewery Vivant so you can always get a brew there pre or post dinner too.

Also nearby are Green Well and Winchester which are both delicious with good beer on tap.  I prefer both of them over Graydon's Crossing/Derby Station but that's another option too.

I also like Rockwell's/Republic and they have a great selection of MI beers too.  If you're downtown you could always do HopCat for the best beer selection and pretty tasty food.

You can peruse this GR Dining Guide from MLive for some more ideas too.

  • I was going to reply, but knew Juli had it covered. ;)

Just wanted to say enjoy your date night.
