I am looking to purchase one of these xtra-large canvas totes to double as a carry on/beach bag for an upcoming cruise. I've heard great things about both. My dilema is this..... the Lands' End model has multiple pockets inside and a wider range of color choices however, most of the reviews indicate they wish the straps were longer so when full and carrying it on your shoulder, it would be more comfortable. The LLBean model has the option of ordering longer straps but has no pockets inside, and not a wide range of color options.
Do any of you own either of these? What are your thoughts? I'm leaning toward the LLBean because being able to carry it on my shoulder is kinda important to me. However, Lands End has better color choices and I'm not sure if I will miss the inside pockets. Decisions, decisions.
Re: Lands' End or LL Bean Canvas Totes - Can't decide
As an avid traveler, I would find anything with an open top (no closure) as highly impractical and a nusance. I agree that these are nice if you're tossing them in a trunk and they will stand upright. However, with air travel, a bag that can be set on its side without dumping its contents is a must. Also, that canvas will be filthy is no time at all. In addition for travel security I would never travel with an open top bag...it's too easy for someone to slip a hand in and grab a valuable item.
If you like LL Bean, did you see the Hunter's, Carry All or Microlite bags?

I totally agree about the open top. I forgot to mention that I will absolutely be getting one with the zippered closure.
