T&P for D *Update*

I got to my parents house about 7:15 tonight and my dad carried D out of the house. Said he had just woken up and seemed really hot. I took him and he was burning up so I carried him inside. We sat on the couch so I could poke around at all of the new teeth popping through. He leaned over on my tummy and snuggled. Then he started seizing.

That was the scariest minute of my life.

Called 911. EMTs checked him out. We have an appt at 7:30 tomorrow morning.

He is back to his normal self, eating and playing.

I could use some T&Ps that this was just a fluke - I don't know how many of these I can handle.

 *Update*

Dr said he looks great. He is back to having a good time. His fever started coming back this afternoon so my MIL gave him some more medicine. I am hoping to never experience this again but at least next time I will be prepared and know exactly what to do.

My poor dad - mom said he was trying to tell her what happened and his eyed welled up with tears, she said they never spilled over but he was just so upset :-( He went out to Kroger and bought some fever reducer and a temporal thermometer last night.

Thank you for all the thoughts, prayers, vibes and the stories with happy endings :-) You ladies truly are the best!

Re: T&P for D *Update*

  • I'm sorry, that is really scary.  If it makes you feel any better, we were told at our baby first aid course that seizures are actually fairly common "side effects" of a fever in a baby.  I'll be sending T&P's your way.

  • Hugs sweetie. You are doing all the right things. Febrile seizures are usually flukes and I am sure you'll get good news tomorrow. Lots of t&ps and vibes and a big hug to D xoxo

  • That would be so scary!  I was thinking the same thing as Lindsay about the fever.  Hope it just turns out that it's a one time thing and the appt goes well!  On a different note, I can't believe how big he's gotten!  So cute!

  • Oh my goodness.. Hugs to you and t&ps for him. Keep us posted
  • Wow that is really scary and I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I did want to tell you that the same thing happened to a friend of mines son. He had a high fever and then had a seizure (just so happened he was at his peds office when he had it!) Luckily everything was fine and the ped said it the seizure was due to his high fever. Good luck at the appt and I hope everything turns out fine.

  • T&P's coming your way. Like the other girls said, it is something that can happen with kids and high fevers. The same thing happened to my cousin when she was little. It doesn't make it any less scary, but just to let you know I know someone who it happened to. She was back to her normal self later in the day :)

Good luck at the appt. tomorrow. I hope everything turns out fine!

  • Oh my! Super scary! T&Ps for D and hugs to both of you! I have a friend who's little boy gets febrile seizures and I know it's a super scary experience, he's fine after, but I know it scares the life out of her. Good luck at the appointment and keep us posted!

  • Poor D! Seizures are so scsry to watch. My dog has epilepsy and that is horrible enough. Vibes that this was a one time thing.

  • So scary! Glad that you'll get in to see the doctor and get some reassurance. Hopefully it was a fluke due to the fever. I've seen a few kids at school having them and it's such a panic moment. Lots of hugs to you and D!

  • Lots of T&Ps and hugs for D!!

My niece did the same thing when she was right around 2. She was sleeping in my parents bed and woke up crying saying she didn't feel good. Then she seizured for probably 20 seconds (seemed like FOR.EVER.) came out of it and said,"Aunt Kawi can I please have some ice cream?"

I remember taking her to the ER and the doctors telling us that sometimes that is how our bodies make the fever go down. (Of course, they put it in some sort of medical term.)

A girl I work with had the same thing happen to her son when he was around 5 or 7 I think. She said that after the seizure he slept for like 12 hours but woke up and was fine.

  • Sorry you are going through that. (I know i am late).

One of my really good friends little boy seizes every time he gets a fever. It first happened with when he got his 1 year molars in. Now she doesn't even bring him to the dr for it because she knows exactly what to expect and what is happening.
