beaches other then ocean city Md

My husband and I have decided to go on a little beach trip.  What other beaches are nice to go to and not too expensive.  We've been to Ocen city MD and it's just not worth it.  We live in York Pa and don't want to spend more then 4 to 5 hours in the car.  Any ideas??  Thanks! Big Smile

Re: beaches other then ocean city Md

  • if you only want to spend 4 hours in the car, the obvious choice for me would be somewhere in NJ - Cape May, LBI, etc.  Rehobeth Beach DE is very nice and just north of OCMD.

  • i'm not sure where that is in PA but the hamptons, montauk, sag harbor etc... all hve gorgeous beaches.

  • Rehoboth Beach is very nice, also the beaches on NJ - Stone Harbor, etc.  Price will depend on how close you want to stay to the water.

We stayed here in Rehoboth and the location was great to shops, restaurants and the beach

  • I don't know how long it would take you but we frequent belmar beach in NJ. Quaint town with a nice boardwalk that has a few little eateries on it.

  • How about Chincoteague, VA. It's where they have the national seashore and wild ponies. It's very relaxing and not very expensive at all. http://www.chincoteague.com/

Or if you want NJ, I suggest Ocean City, NJ. The boardwalk is the best one ever and the beaches are super nice, especially around 59th street.

A lot depends on what you're looking for.  I grew up in NJ and spent pretty much every weekend of every summer during my teen years down the shore - mostly Belmar and Pt. Pleasant - and I personally would go to Ocean City, MD over Belmar in a heartbeat. But if you're younger than I am, without kids, you might prefer the Belmar scene.  My kids like Belmar for a day, but Ocean City for a vacation...it's a bit more family friendly IMO.

My sister is on LBI pretty much every weekend, and when she took me and my girls there I found that to be quaint and sort of fun.  Not a party/games/fun boardwalk but lots to do and the beach was much nicer if that's the part you're most interested in.

Lol. Yup, no kids and in our mid 30's-40 that's why we like belmar.  Plus it's an easy drive from where we live.

If you are looking for a "fun" place try Wildwood.  It has large, clean free beaches.  I like the long walk from the boardwalk to the ocean because you can't hear the bustle from the boardwalk.  They have rides and a water park also.
