Crystal

Just going off of your B&M post, what ever happened from those two school divisions you were deciding between?  One christian school one public I think.  Or is that what you are referring to?

Re: Crystal

  • Yes, there was a Christian school and a job at my old high school (public school in my hometown). I prayed and prayed wanting to be obedient to God's will if He would want me at the Christian school, however He closed that door for me. :) I'm really glad because the Christian school was $15,000 less a year and in a much much more expensive living area (Orange County). Though I'd be willing to sacrifice it if it was God's calling, I am very relieved at the financial perspective. So, I'm in the process of going through the motions of interviewing for my old high school but it really, really looks good. Last I heard, they aren't even interviewing anyone else. Then again, it's for a Social Studies/Spanish Credential which really doesn't exist for the most part. I'm the only person I've ever known who has it and they kind of "molded" the position to fit my credential so I could get my foot in the door. I'm so blessed and at $65k/year with a reasonable cost of living, I'm looking forward to having a 3-4 bdrm house and a yard for my pups... and I'm hoping to be able to have both pups for a while but not sure with Cricket's leg. :(

So, definitely praying that the home town position works out... otherwise I'm so much more blessed than many b/c I still have my job in LA for as long as I want it. :) I'm just eager to move out of LA... only moved there for one reason and that reason fled the coop so it's time for me to live life where I want to. :) I'm excited to finally be near family and real friends again... it's been 5 years since I've had that. :)

  • PS Thanks for asking! :)
  • That is exciting, Crystal!  It is such a great feeling when things start happening like you want them too!  I will keep my fingers crossed you get that position!

  • I've been thinking about you.  I hope they figure things out soon so that you can start with the moving process!  What a great salary.  I thought teachers in the US made WAY less than that.

Haha! Don't get me wrong. That is a high salary for teachers. Teachers in Southern California get paid a little bit more due to our crazy cost of living. A 3 bdrm house in LA is about a half million dollars to buy so if you do the math, it isn't that much of a salary. In addition, I've been teaching for 8 years and have a Master's Degree. Starting Teacher would be in the low 40's in the same district. I think that the US average is probably about 10-15k less than some of the So Cal districts. Even in my hometown (which is considerably lower cost of living than LA), to rent a 3 bdrm home is about $2000/month so I'll be probably choosing to live somewhere around my hometown or somewhere a liiitle lower so I'll probably still choose to have a 30-40 min commute to save some money this year before getting married. Dont want to max out my budget. :) In the super cheap areas, I can get a 2 bdrm for about $1000/month.
