I linked up with my makeup artist (who was actually just on Bridezillas on sunday) and after she saw my wedding DIY stuff, she asked if i wanted to start a side business doing wedding odds and ends. I have had a lot of really good feedback on selling some of my wedding stuff online. I actually sold almost everything and actually made a profit because i had been thrifty in buying everything to begin with. So i was able to make things pretty affordable for other brides and still save them money while making my money back.
so maybe my days of making baskets and decorating apothocary jars are not over. LOL
anyone else picking up some crafty side hobbies????
Re: Wedding is over..but my withdrawl has led to a side job
That is fantastic. I love crafty creative people, because I have none!
To be honest, I am seriously considering opening a bridal boutique in our small little town. There is one here that does a huge amount of business and I in fact got my dress and my sister's dress there, but the experience was just awful. The owner was so rude by the end of the process I almost just picked up my dress without alterations and told her to forget my sister's dress order (that she failed to order when she said she would!). I've talked to others around town and they have ALL had the same experience. My H and I have checked on a few buildings to buy and start. I'm just super nervous about starting my own business so I have been doing research like crazy.
yes stressful..but its also a sense of satisfaction too. i think wedding planning for me is not something i would want to do as a side job, but the hobby involved on the back end i think i could handle. im planning on sticking to OOT baskets, ceremony decor, etc.
im experimenting with some different styles and whatnot now...but i just have no room im the little basement apartment i am in. we are actually moving soon...yes it actually worked out...and im going to have a whole basement at my disposal. bwhahahhahahaa.
crafty side hobbies = decorating our house, adding to our landscape, and learning to sew, which is more than enough for me right now!
Although after my dress shopping experience with my plus-sized mom, I thought if I was injured and could not longer practice my current job I'd open a bridal salon for plus-size brides with sample sizes in the biggest size they make the dress in. I haven't heard of any bridal salons that caters to bigger brides, and I always feel bad for girls that can't fit into the samples even when they are unzipped/unlaced. Which is kind of weird because I had the opposite problem and I'm very petite...5'1" and 104lbs. Seems like a no brainer to me that no one has done this yet, but maybe I'm weird!
OMG! That is something that needs to be done so bad! I had a horrible experience in a dress shop for a bridesmaids dress because im not the sample size and left crying. I ended up just sticking with Davids bridal for my wedding dress because I didnt want that experience again, not that I was unhappy, loved my dress but it would of been nice to feel like I had other options. That would be an awesome idea!
I know how to sew a little but I think I'm going to get a lot more into it since my Husband (Then Fiance) bought me a sewing machine for Christmas!
Just got to find some inspiration. Pinterest here I come!
